Byrne, Pronk Earn All-Tournament Accolades, Titans Finish Second

Full Tournament Results

For the second year in a row, the UDM men' golf team came up short for its chance at a seventh league championship as the Titans finished runner-up to Cleveland State at the Horizon League Championship.

The Titans ended the tournament with an 892 (300-296-296) team score, five strokes behind the Vikings 887 (302-297-288). Detroit had a three-stroke lead heading into the final 18 holes, but the Vikings caught fire in the final round ending the championship shooting an even par 288.

Three Titans finished in the top 10 led by junior David Byrne, who earned All-Tournament and All-League honors for the third-straight year, after finishing in a three-way tie for fourth with a 220 (75-71-74).
Sophomore Britt Pronk (74-74-72) also garnered All-Tournament honors sharing fourth with Byrne, while sophomore Jeff Clarridge tied for 10th carding a 225 (71-76-78).

Freshman Mark Hicks rounded out the UDM scoring finishing in 14th place with a 227 (80-75-72) total, which included one of the two eagles in the championship when he sank a putt on the on Par-5 third hole in the second round.

The two-day event marked Detroit's ninth finish in the top three at the HL tournament in the last 11 years, a stretch that includes five championships, as well as three second-place efforts.
