Blessing Of The Titan Auxiliary Field On The James K. Campbell Complex Set For Wednesday

Another year means another new athletic facility at the University of Detroit Mercy as UDM will have a blessing for the new Titan Auxiliary Field on the James K. Campbell Complex on Wednesday, Sept. 23. The new field is located directly south of Calihan Hall next to the Titan Tennis Complex.

The blessing is part of the University's Founders Celebration, an annual event that celebrates the 132 years of commitment to the City of Detroit, the metropolitan area, and the University's founding sponsors, the Society of Jesus and the Religious Sisters of Mercy.

The event will kick off at 5:00 p.m., with the Titan men's and women's tennis programs showcasing their skills in a practice, while the men's lacrosse team will hold an open practice on Titan Field. At 5:30, all fans in attendance will be treated to a free barbeque under the Titan Tennis Pavilion

The blessing will take place at 6:05 as University President Fr. Gerard Stockhausen, S.J., will lead the ceremony for the new practice field, which will be utilized primarily by the Titan soccer and lacrosse programs.

It is the third straight year that Detroit has seen a new athletic facility open on campus following the new Titan Field with an A-Turf playing surface along with a six-lane polyurethane track and areas for the steeplechase and field events in 2007, and the Titan Tennis Complex and the Wayne Wheeler Titan Golf Practice Center in 2008.

All Titan fans, staff, students and alums wishing to attend should RSVP to udmgrad@udmercy.edu or call 313-993-1540.
