DETROIT (10/22/2024) -- The University of Detroit Mercy track and field and cross country programs saw a few alums post some great times at a pair of historic marathons last weekend.
UDM saw a prize winner as
Kayla Hughes claimed fourth in 2:51:53 at the Detroit Free Press Marathon, the best finish in Titan history, as she earned $500.00 for her performance. In the female 25-29 bracket, she was fourth overall.
Olivia Huszti ran in her first marathon in the Motor City and tallied a time of 3:40:54, 16th in the 20-24 division.
In the half marathon, former track pole vaulter and assistant coach
Alexandra Sinani recorded a 2:32:54.
For the men's alums,
Oscar Hernandez clocked 2:34:09 for 23rd place and fourth in the 20-24 division at Detroit.
At the Chicago Marathon,
Ben Kendell was 27th in a time of 2:15:11, good for 12th in the 25-29 age group.
Former teammates
Allison Sherman and
Kaitlin Murray made their marathon debuts in the Windy City. Sherman was 249th overall and 23rd in the 20-24 division in 3:00:24, while Murray ran 3:08:12 for 475th and 44th in the age range.
