In both teams' first Horizon League contest of the 2009-10 campaign, Detroit had four players score in double figures for the second straight game to help capture a 68-47 victory over visiting Wright State Sunday afternoon.

Detroit senior Brigid Mulroy (West Bloomfield, MI/Marian) led all scorers as she netted 21 points after shooting 6-of-14 from the field, which included four from beyond the arc and all five attempts at the line. This is the fourth time this season in which Mulroy has scored 20 or more points.

“The team did a great job coming out and competing,” said Detroit head coach Autumn Rademacher. “We wanted to do a better job of protecting our home court. We don't want to give up anything easy in Caihan Hall and that's what we did today.”

Freshman Demeisha Fambro (Detroit, MI/Crockett Tech) came off the bench to score a team second-best 13, while sophomores Yar Shayok (Ottawa, ON/Hillcrest) and Jalesa Jones (Detroit, MI/Pershing) each added 11 points for the Titans. Sophomore Lauren Allen (Rochester, MI/Rochester) grabbed a season-high nine rebounds, which tied for a game-best.

Detroit maintained control of the game virtually all afternoon as the Titans only relinquished its lead for a brief period in the middle of the first half. With UDM down, 23-20, Mulroy responded with a 3-pointer for the only tie of the contest.

The Titans then went on to score 11 unanswered points, nine of which came from Fambro, for its largest lead of the stanza with just over four minutes remaining. Fambro then hit a midrange jumper in the closing minute to give Detroit a 37-28 advantage at the break.

UDM came right out of the gate on a 6-0 scoring run in the second half, which was capped off with a trey from Mulroy to put the score at 43-28. Detroit stretched its lead to 20, twice, with the second coming after Mulroy made her second attempt at the line (3:28) to put the score at 64-44 and Fambro gave Detroit its largest lead of the contest of 24 with 30 seconds remaining as she hit a jumper to put the score at 68-44.

“Our non-conference record is not an issue, it was a learning experience,” added Rademacher. “This is what matters the most to us. It's not a ho-hum experience to play the games up to this point and we played a tough schedule n November and December, but the conference games are what matter.”

Sophomore Molly Fox poured in a team-high 16 points for the Raiders, while junior Tanni Scott tied for a game-best nine rebounds.

Detroit (3-9, 1-0 HL) shot a solid 46 percent from the field and 74 percent from the line, while Wright State (4-7, 0-1), had a 19-of-54 showing from the field. UDM dished out 17 assists to the Raiders' nine and Detroit ended with 12 steals after forcing 19 WSU turnovers.

This marks the second consecutive game that the Titans have had four players score in double figures and the second time this season in which Detroit has held its opponent to under 50 points. This is also the second straight season in which the Titans have won their conference opener as Detroit defeated Loyola in Chicago by a score of 71-64 on Jan. 3, 2009.

The Titans will return to action when they face Milwaukee at the Klotsche Center in Wisconsin on Thursday at 8 p.m.
