WBB Q&A: Junior Tayler Langham

Detroit junior transfer guard Tayler Langham (Plymouth, MI/Salem/Schoolcraft) is featured in this week's women's basketball Q&A.

Why did you choose Detroit?
I chose Detroit because it was close to home and Coach Rad(emacher) convinced me to come here. I also heard it was a good school. Everyone told me it was a great school, academically. I just came here mainly for basketball.

How many siblings do you have?
I have two younger brothers that are six and eight years old and one older brother, who is 24.

What was the experience like playing at Schoolcraft?

I liked it. I played a lot of minutes. Coach Lafata is a real good coach and pretty fair. She let me run the floor and that's what Coach Rad wants me to do here.

What honor were you the third person in Schoolcraft history to earn?
I was named an NJCAA Division II All-America in 2009.

What's the difference between playing at a Junior College versus playing Division I?
I think the competition is a step higher. It's still college ball either way, but DI may be a faster pace. Having the playing experience at Schoolcraft, though, set me up to come here to Detroit.

Why did you choose to attend a junior college after high school?
That's just kind of the way it happened after high school. I met Coach Lafata because I went to watch one of Schoolcraft's games and I liked how the team played. I went to the games and started talking to her more and started going to their open gyms in the summertime. So, that's basically how I ended up at Schoolcraft.

How is it being back on the court after having to sit out the first semester?
It's real good. I hated sitting out; it was the worst feeling ever. I've never had to sit out that long. I just had to wait because I needed two credits, so I had to wait to play until the end of the semester.

What was the experience like for you when you played your first game in a Titan uniform?
It was a good feeling. I thought I was going to be nervous at first, but I wasn't nervous at all; I was ready to play. I was very excited. I was in the locker room getting hyped before the game.

What opponent are you most looking forward to facing this year?
The team I wanted to play was Michigan State, but I wasn't able to play in that game. I guess it would be Green Bay because that's a big rival. I'm excited to play that game.

How long have you been playing basketball?
I've been playing basketball since fifth or sixth grade. I played in little league in Canton called PCJBA. I played at Discovery Middle School and played AAU ball. I played for Motor City Blazers and our high school league, which was the Western Wayne Wildcats.

Do sports run in your family?

Yes. My brother played football for Western Michigan University and he used to play basketball for Catholic Central. My mom's was a cheerleader at one point. My 8-year-old brother, Wolfgang, loves basketball and my other younger brother doesn't really like it that much.

Who has your biggest influence been throughout your playing career?
I would say my parents. They would always take me to all my practices and games.

What has been your best basketball moment thus far in your playing career?
I scored 42 points in one game my sophomore year at Schoolcraft when we played some team in Arizona.

What professional athlete do you admire the most and why?
Kobe Bryant. I love Kobe and now we wear the same number. I just like the way he plays. He's smart. He has a green light from his coach to do whatever he wants because he can. I just like his whole style of play.

What are you majoring in?
Business.

What do you plan to do after you graduate?
I want to go into sports management.

Is there any significance to #24?
No it was just the number I had at Schoolcraft. My number changed a lot growing up. I was #25 at one point and was #23 a lot, because I was trying to be like Jordan and Lebron.

Do you have any pregame superstitions?
Just listening to music. I like listening to music because it gets me pumped up. I listen to Jay-Z, Lil' Wayne and Gucci Mane.

What is something that people would be surprised to find out about you?
I like to write a lot. If I could sing, I would be a good songwriter. If I could sing, I'd be famous by now!

If there was a movie made about your life, who would you want to play you?
Jada Pinkett Smith

What are your thoughts on Coach Rademacher?
She's a good coach. Everything she tells us is good information and we just have to take it in. She's funny to me. She's really funny. I've never met anyone like her, ever.

What does it mean to you to be a Titan?
Everyone sticking together. Everyone at the school seems close; everyone that's a Titan. All the other teams, staff and everyone is like a family.
