DETROIT -- The Detroit men's golf team got birdies on the final hole from senior
Britt Pronk (London, ON/St. Thomas Aquinas) and sophomore
Simon Reyers (Kingston, ON/Holy Cross) to give the Titans a victory over Oakland on Friday at the Detroit Golf Club.
The Titans won the affair 274-276 on the Par 68, 5,967-yard South Course.
Pronk led Detroit on the day with a 1-under 67, an impressive score considering he started the contest with two-straight bogeys. The 67 tied for the best score on the links today with OU's Jakob Ziegler.
Senior
Jeff Clarridge (Barrie, ON/Bear Creek) and junior
Mark Hicks (Niagara-On-The-Lake, ON/Niagara) carded an even 68 in the 18-hole dual match, while Reyers and freshmen
Kyle Benford (Amherstview, ON/Holy Cross) and
Brendan Leonard (Cambridge, ON/St. Benedict) shot a 3-over 71. Sophomore
Sheldon Keyte (Portage, MI/Kalamazoo Hackett) rounded out the lineup with a 7-over 75.
The Titans led going into the final hole, but the Grizzlies got birdies from Ziegler and Mike Coriasso to put the pressure on the red, white and blue. The Titans then responded with a pair of birdies to clinch the victory over their in-state rivals.
Detroit will have one last event this fall as the Titans make their way to Beallsville, MD and The Members Club at Four Streams for the 26th Annual Georgetown Intercollegiate. The 54-hole tournament will get underway on Monday.
