DETROIT  - The Titans hosted Butler Sunday afternoon on senior day and fell by a 3-0 score.

The women's soccer team (7-5-4/3-2-1 Horizon League) honored seniors' Archana “Archie” Wadhawan (Troy, MI/Troy) and Alauna Pierce (Toronto, ON/Mowat) prior to the game with both players having family members present for the festivities in addition to Athletic Director Keri Gaither.

Wadhawan is a pre-med major and played in her 64th game as a Titan today over the past four years. She had both of her parents and sister on hand while Pierce was accompanied by her brother and sister. Pierce is an elementary education major who has played in 66 career games for Detroit and started 62 of those contests.

Butler (6-10-0/4-2-0 HL) posted two goals in the first half with the first goal at 9:43 and the second at 21:00. The Bulldogs added a third goal with less than three minutes in the game to round out the scoring for the day.

“We didn't drop on the first goal and they got a breakaway. On the second one they capitalized on a set piece and on the third we were pushing forward in the second half and they scored a late goal,” said head coach Mike Lupenec.

“Whenever you play good teams with good players like Griswold, they'll punish you when you make mistakes. You just need to learn from that,” added Lupenec.

Detroit managed six shots in the game, including four on goal, and came close late in the 83rd minute. Junior Alexandra Suschak (Brecksville, OH/Brecksville) got a head on a cross from sophomore Mary Leone (St. Clair Shores, MI/Lakeview) but it just hit the crossbar.

“I'm happy for the effort we had in the second half and the only thing you can do is continue what you've been doing all year and get ready for the next two conference games,” continued Lupenec.

With the loss, Detroit sits in fifth place in the Horizon League with two games remaining on the schedule.

The Titans' next game will be this Friday at Milwaukee with game time scheduled for 8:00 p.m. EDT. The final contest of the regular season will be Sunday at Green Bay.
