Detroit Plays To 0-0 Draw Against Loyola

Box Score

The women's soccer team hosted Loyola at Titan Field Sunday afternoon and the final score was a 0-0 tie.

Freshman goalkeeper Nora Abolins (Demorestville, ON/Centennial) made four saves for the Titans (4-4-4/1-1-1) as she recorded her fifth shutout of the year. Her five shutouts lead the Horizon League.

Her biggest save came four minutes into the first overtime period as Loyola (4-8-1/2-0-1 HL) was granted a penalty kick. Kristen Papierski took the shot for the Ramblers and Abolins dove to her left to make the save and preserve the tie.

“They had a penalty shot in overtime and I have to give credit to Nora as she stayed focused and made a big save like she has been doing for us all year,” said head coach Mike Lupenec.

“Nora earned another shutout and defensively, I thought we did a great job. We need to do a better job in the offensive zone in some areas. I think we were missing some easy opportunities,” Lupenec continued.

The Titans came close to pulling out the victory as junior Alexandra Suschak (Brecksville, OH/Brecksville) had a header that hit the crossbar early in the second half and another header late in regulation that was saved by the Rambler goalkeeper. On the day, the Titans held a 14-10 overall advantage in shots.

“Every conference game is going to be tight and I think today you're looking at one of the better defensive teams in the league," said Lupenec. "Loyola is undefeated in the conference and to get a point is still valuable."

The next match for Detroit will be this Friday at Youngstown State at 3:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on the Horizon League Network with the link located on the schedule page.
