Women's Basketball Inks Two Forwards For 2011

DETROIT -- Head coach Autumn Rademacher continues to build the Titan basketball program by stockpiling talent for the future as the 2010 Horizon League Coach of the Year announced that forwards Shareta Brown (Grand Blanc, MI/Grand Blanc) and Audrey Matteson (Monticello, IN/Twin Lakes) have signed a National Letter Of Intent to play for Detroit.

Brown, a mobile 6-0 forward, averaged 14 points and eight rebounds for Grand Blanc this past season, leading the Bobcats to their first district title in four years as well as a regional semifinals appearance. She played her first two years of high school at Pontiac Northern, where she was an All-Oakland County honorable mention as a sophomore. She was tabbed one of the top 100 players in Michigan by Mick McCabe of the Detroit Free Press as well as one of the top 20 recruits in the state by Mid-Michigan Prep News and Michigan LadyBallers.com. She played AAU with the All-Michigan Basketball Club (formerly the Michigan Mavericks) as well as with the Michigan Fire.

“Shareta is an exceptional player that has the ability to make an immediate impact to our program, said Rademacher. “She has a high level skill set and redefines the phrase “power forward” with her physical presence in the paint. She is a fierce competitor that can also face the basket and consistently hit the outside shot, and is a phenomenal passer. She had a great summer under All-Michigan AAU head coach Darrin McAllister and continues to improve in all areas. We are very excited about her signing to the University of Detroit Mercy and can't wait for her arrival on campus next fall.”

Matteson, a 5-10 versatile forward who can handle the ball, has won three varsity letters as she enters her senior year. A top 100 player in the state of Indiana, Matteson has received a number of accolades in her prep career including, the Most Improved Player as a freshman and All-White County as a sophomore and junior. Last year, she led her team in scoring (12.0 ppg.), assists (3.0 apg.) and steals (5.0 spg.), while also pulling down 8.0 rebounds per game en route to earning All-Conference accolades. Matteson also garnered a Scholastic Award as a junior for having the highest GPA on the team and has been on the honor roll since her freshman year. A two-time team captain, she played AAU with the Indy Lady Gym Rats, leading the team to a state championship in 2010 and fourth in the nationals in 2007.

“Audrey is a match-up nightmare,” Rademacher said. “She is a 5-10 forward that can post up and can step out and hit the three point shot with a high degree of accuracy. She is a utility player that will run down every rebound and loose ball and does all the intangibles that lead her team to having success. She can defend anyone on the floor and has tremendous court awareness and her basketball IQ is even higher than her 4.0 grade point average. She is a work horse and I am really looking forward to adding Audrey to the Detroit Titan family.”

The Titans will begin the 2010-11 season this Friday as Detroit hosts local rival Oakland at 7:00 p.m., inside historic Calihan Hall.
