DETROIT -- Sophomores Demeisha Fambro (Detroit, MI/Crockett Tech) and Cherridy Thornton (Detroit, MI/Frank Cody Senior) each posted career highs and the Titan defense stymied Ball State all night long as UDM routed the Cardinals 78-60, on Tuesday night in Calihan Hall. The win marked Detroit's first 2-0 start since the 1999-2000 season.

Fambro came off the bench to score 25 points in just 22 minutes of action. The sophomore went 8-for-14 from the field, including a pair of three-point shots. Fambro was also dialed in from the charity stripe as she finished the game 7-for-8 from the line.

Thornton provided a spark early with 15 of her 20 points coming in the first half. She hit four of her eight attempts from behind the arc, while adding four rebounds.

Detroit led from midway through the first half, but put the game away in the second going on an 18-2 run to go up by 30, 66-36, with just over eight minutes left in the game.

Thornton and Fambro were the catalyst again starting the scoring with back-to-back 3-pointers. Fambro then got to the line on two-straight possessions connecting on all four of her free throws to give the red, white and blue a 59-34 lead.

After a Ball State (1-2) basket, Fambro drove to the lane for a layup and converted the free throw for the three-point play. The Titans would force another Cardinals' turnover and this time Thornton got to the line for a pair of free throws and the next time down the court, sophomore Yar Shayok (Ottawa, ON/Hillcrest) hit a pair from the line as Detroit opened the 30-point lead, its largest of the game.

From there, BSU was able to chip away before the clock sounded.

The game started with Detroit down by four, 11-7, 4 ½ minutes into the game when the Titans exploded with 14 unanswered points to take its first double-digit lead, 21-11. Thornton hit a pair of 3-pointers during the spurt, while Shayok got inside for six points of her own. The Titan defense also helped holding Ball State scoreless for over six minutes, causing six Cardinal turnovers during that span.

The Titans continued to pour it on going on another run, this time a 15-5 tally, to extend its lead and eventually taking a 21-point advantage, before heading into the locker rooms ahead, 42-24.

Detroit shot just under 50 percent in the first half hitting 17 of its 35 shots, including four 3-pointers. Detroit forced 11 BSU miscues and held the Cardinals to 10-of-33 from the field.

It was more of the same in the second period as Detroit never let up on its scoring and defensive intensity. Detroit had a 20-point lead, but saw Ball State trim it to 14, 48-34, with 13:41 left in the stanza.

The Titans ended the game 27-of-65 from the field (41.5%). Detroit also scored 30 points off of 22 Ball State turnovers.

Shayok ended the contest with 10 points, six rebounds and three blocks, while junior Jalesa Jones (Detroit, MI/Pershing), had seven points, five assists, four boards and a pair of steals. Junior Lauren Allen (Rochester Hills, MI/Rochester) had a game-high seven helpers and also pulled down seven rebounds.

Detroit will finish its season-opening three game homestand on Friday as the Titans welcome state foe Western Michigan into Calihan Hall. The game will tip at 5:00 p.m., and is the first of a Titan doubleheader with the men hosting Indiana Tech at 7:30 p.m.
