Riding a four-game winning streak, the Detroit men's basketball team will head to Indianapolis to battle Green Bay in the second round of the of the 2010 Speedway Horizon League Men's Basketball Championship. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m., at Hinkle Fieldhouse.

The seventh-seeded Titans (19-13) stormed into the second round after defeating the sixth seed, Valparaiso, on the road 89-82. Detroit used a scary offensive effort to score a season-high 56 points in the second half, while the defensive pressure helped keep the top shooting team in the league (47 percent) off balance as the Crusaders shot just 39 percent from the field.
The Titans also made their free throws, getting to the line 43 times, making 31 of them (72 percent). Sophomore
Eli Holman recorded his 10th double-double of the season with a career-high 21 points and 15 rebounds, while sophomore
Chase Simon had 24 points.
Green Bay (21-11), the third seed, took care of Youngstown State at home in the first round, 81-67. Five players scored in double figures led by Bryquis Perine's 21 points and seven assists. The Phoenix shot 54 percent from the field (27-of-40) and 80 percent (20-of-25) from the charity stripe.
First team All-Horizon League guard Rahmon Fletcher leads the team and is second in the league in scoring at 16.6 points per game. Perine is averaging 13.5 ppg., and 4.2 apg., while Randy Berry has posted 10 double-doubles on the season and is tallying 8.2 rpg.
The winner of this contest will move on to face the tournament's number two seed, Wright State, on Saturday at 5:15 p.m.
DETROIT VS GREEN BAY
The overall series is tied at 19-19, but Green Bay has won six straight, including both games this season by just two points apiece.
The Titans and Phoenix have hooked up four times in the Horizon League Tournament, three times in the semi-finals, with UDM owning a 3-1 mark. In semi-finals action, Detroit defeated Green Bay 56-50 in 1996 and 61-55 in 2005, while falling 68-65 in 1998.
The lone match-up not in the semi's occurred in the quarterfinals in 2001, with the red, white and blue winning, 66-58.
WHAN AN EFFORT
Detroit's 89-82 victory over Valparaiso in the first round of the HL Tournament had some extraordinary Titan efforts.
- UDM scored 56 points in the second half, the most in any half this season.
- Held the top shooting team in the league to just 39 percent from the field, after VU came into the contest at 47 percent for the season.
- Connected on 31-of-43 free throws (72%), its season-high for makes and attempts.
- Outrebounded the Crusaders, 46-31.
ON A WINNING STREAK
Detroit has now won four straight overall and three straight on the road against a conference opponent. The four-game winning streak matches a season high.
The last time the Titans won four straight against league foes was during the 2004-05 season when the Titans won five in a row, with the last two coming in the conference tournament.
The last time UDM won four straight HL games on the road was in 1998-99.
A SENIOR EFFORT
Senior
Eulis Stephens netted a season-high 11 points against Valparaiso in Detroit's first round victory. He made both of his field goals and connected on a career-best 7-of-8 from the free throw line.
A WINNING CAMPAIGN
The Titans have already clinched their first winning season in six years (18-13, 2003-04) and with one more victory, Detroit will reach 20 wins for the first time since going 25-12 in 2000-01.
This season has marked a 12-win improvement over last year, making it the biggest turnaround in Titan history. Prior to that, the biggest turnaround between seasons was nine wins, done by the 1959-60 squad (11 wins to 20) and the 1997-98 team (16 wins to 25).
