Reyers, Clarridge Take Third Place At Titans Invitational

Final Scoring

Threes were wild at the 2010 Titans Invitational as UDM men's golfers Jeff Clarridge (Barrie, ON/Bear Creek) and Simon Reyers (Kingston, ON/Holy Cross) shared third place individually and Detroit did the same as a team after the final scores were tallied on a cold and windy Saturday afternoon at Prestwick Village Golf Club in Highland.

Reyers, a freshman, chipped in on the last hole to finish with a 75-72-74-221 card and end up four strokes behind tournament medalist Austin Ehlenfeld of Green Bay. Junior Clarridge posted a 72-73-76-221 tally to match his teammate's final score.

Detroit entered the final round in second place, trailing only Green Bay, but the Phoenix (880) extended their advantage down the stretch to win and Youngstown State (892) passed the Titans (900, third along with Oakland) to claim second.

“The tournament was a great success in many ways as we moved to Prestwick Village and took our invitational to a new level at a great country club,” Detroit coach Mark Engel said. “Our second round was really solid (293, the best team score of the middle 18 holes), but we took a step back on Saturday. It's been hard for us to consistently put together four good scores this spring and this was another example.

“Jeff and Simon played well and hopefully a good week of hard work will get us ready for the league championships.”

The Titans will join the rest of the Horizon League golfers next week (April 26-27) at Kearney Hill Links in Lexington, KY to decide the league championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals. Detroit has won five of the last 11 conference championships.
