Post-Game Interview On Titan YouTube
Sophomores
Anna Eidem (Champlin, MN/Totino-Grace) and
Emily Boissonneault (Brooklin, ON/Donald A. Wilson) combined for seven goals and the Titans made a strong push to get back in it, but an early run by Longwood saw the Lancers take the game, 15-9, on Sunday morning.
The game was the third women's lacrosse game in three days at the University as the weekend long action had raffles and donations being collected to benefit the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance. Detroit also wore teal T-shirts in warm-ups throughout the weekend, which fans can still purchase by contacting the Detroit Athletic Department (313-993-1700), in support of the OCNA.
The Titans (6-10, 3-3 NLC) fell behind early, 10-1, but would go on a run to cut the deficit in half. Eidem, who led the offense with four goals, started the rally with a score at the 4:28 mark in the first and less than a minute later, Boissonneault followed with an unassisted marker of her own to get UDM within seven at the half.
Two minutes into the second stanza, Boissonneault had her second of the game and Eidem followed with 25 minutes left taking a pass from freshman
Madison Noland (Dallas, TX/J.J. Pearce) and depositing it in the net.
After a Lancers' goal, Eidem got Detroit back into striking distance (11-6) as Boissonneault found her in front of the cage and she fired one past the goalie
A 4-0 run by Longwood (7-8, 6-0 NLC) ensued putting an end to the Titan comeback attempt, but with six minutes left, the red, white and blue never gave up scoring the final three tallies of the contest. Freshman
Lindsey Saunders (Pasadena, MD/Northeast) had back-to-back goals at 5:26 and 5:01 and Noland was the playmaker again, this time finding Boissonneault as the Titans pulled within six, but that is where it would finish.
Besides her goals, Eidem collected a game-high six draw controls as Detroit topped Longwood in the category, 16-11. Freshman
Zaynib Hamze (Dublin, CA/Dublin) had a game-high five groundballs, while rookie
Marybeth Flanagan (Lansing, MI/Waverly) stopped 16 shots on the day.
The Titans will end the regular season next Sunday when Detroit visits Ohio State for a 1:00 p.m., affair.
