Jacksonville Hands Tired Titans A 17-13 Loss At NLC Tournament

Box Score

All-NLC sophomore Emily Boissonneault (Brooklin, ON/Donald A. Wilson) scored seven goals but a tired band of Titans, playing their third game in three days, ran out of gas and dropped a 17-13 decision to Jacksonville on a hot, humid Sunday in the third-place game at the National Lacrosse Conference Tournament.

With the setback, Detroit finished its second year of women's lacrosse with a 7-13 record – two more wins than in its debut season – while Jacksonville ended up at 7-10.

Boissoneault and fellow sophomores Anna Eidem (Champlin, MN/Totino-Grace) and Corina Mahorn (Whitby, ON/Anderson CVI) each tallied twice as UDM opened up a 6-3 lead in the first 18 minutes of play. The Dolphins replied with three straight goals to tie the score, but Detroit found the back of the net two more times to take an 8-7 edge into halftime.

Jacksonville's Jocelyn Jamison knotted the game at 8-all barely four minutes into the second stanza, and Boissonneault put Detroit right back on top just 41 seconds later, but then the floodgates opened. The Dolphins netted eight straight scores over the next 12:07, taking an insurmountable 16-9 lead, before the Titans could answer.

Boissonneault finished with a game-high eight points (seven goals and one assist), while Mahorn and Eidem each added three goals for the Titans. Brie Kitchelt, Ellyn Spangenberg and Cassie Campasano paced Jacksonville with three goals apiece.

On the stat sheet, the Dolphins held a 35-27 advantage in shots and collected 19 draw controls to Detroit's 13. The Titans held a 24-21 edge in grounds balls. Freshman Marybeth Flanagan (Lansing, MI/Waverly) made 13 saves in goal for Detroit, while JU's Karli Tobin stopped seven shots en route to the win.
