AD Keri Gaither's Blogs From Nicaragua
University of Detroit Mercy Athletic Director Keri Gaither is currently in Nicaragua as part of the Ignatian Colleagues Program (ICP). The ICP is designed to give existing and emerging leaders a deeper understanding of the Ignatian values and Jesuit history that underlie contemporary Jesuit Catholic Education. The ICP is a collaborative venture of 24 Jesuit colleges and universities and sponsoring provinces and operates in collaboration with the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU).
As part of their 18-month program curriculum, the programs requires its members to complete an immersion trip. The current mission is an eight-day journey to Nicaragua for social justice awareness. By seeing and learning what people and organizations in Nicaragua are doing to promote social justice, the members are looking to bring these lessons back to their Universities and communities and use them to educate both staff and students.
Currently, the travel party consists of 12 Ignatian Colleague participants representing eight different Jesuit Universities. Another group of Ignatian Colleagues completed an immersion trip to El Salvador in February.
Gaither will also provide DetroitTitans.com with daily blogs on her experience with the program and its mission to Nicaragua. To read all of her daily blogs as well as view a photo gallery,
