(BOX SCORE)
The Detroit Titans traveled to Kalamazoo, MI to play the Western Michigan Broncos and fell 1-0 in the exhibition matchup.
“I think it was an evenly played match,” said head coach
Mike Lupenec. “I got to play some players in different positions and I know exactly what kind of system will be effective for this team this year.”
The Titans had offensive opportunities early with three corner kicks and two shots in the first fifteen minutes of the game. It was the Broncos who opened the scoring on a late header with seven minutes remaining in the first half.
Detroit was unable to score the equalizer and was outshot 6-2 in the second half.
Freshman goalkeeper
Nora Abolins (Demorestville, ON/Centennial) played the first half in goal for the Titans making one save. Freshman
Emily Oberheim (Springfield, VA/Lee) played the second half making three saves.
“
Kaitlyn Quarrel (Thunder Bay, ON/St. Ignatius) as a freshman showed us today that she is definitely going to be a big contributor to our offence. When her and
Nina Carter (Clinton Twp., MI/Chippewa Valley) are able to read each other well, understand each others patterns, and play off each other they are going to be a dangerous duo up top for us this year,” said Lupenec.
Detroit will play Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at Toledo in its final exhibition match before opening up its regular season schedule this Friday at the University of Michigan with game time set for 7:00 p.m.
