The Detroit Titans played at the University of Toledo Sunday afternoon and fell 2-1 despite outshooting the Rockets 9-5.
“I think we came out slow in the first 10-15 minutes but as the game went on we implemented the system that we used last game. Overall, the girls did great,” said head coach
Mike Lupenec.
Toledo opened the scoring just under eight minutes into the match. The lone Titans goal was scored by
Alison Suschak (Brecksville, OH/Brecksville) on a shot from the right side of the net just inside the 18-yard box that normally is an easy save for a goalkeeper.
“The goalie looked like she wasn't paying attention and I just took a shot and it went in,” said Suschak. “We still have to work on our finishing but overall I think it's the best game we've had so far.”
Toledo scored with just 2:42 remaining in the game to claim the exhibition win.
Freshmen goalkeepers
Nora Abolins (Demorestville, ON/Centennial)
and
Emily Oberheim (Springfield, VA/Lee) split playing time evenly with Abolins making a save and Oberheim with two saves.
Lupenec added, “We created a lot of scoring opportunities. We had three breakaways and I think with the chances we created today we'll be good going into the game against Michigan.”
Detroit will open the regular season this Friday evening at the University of Michigan with the match slated to start at 7:00 p.m.
