Women’s Soccer Takes Second Straight With 3-0 Win Over IUPUI

(BOX SCORE)

(Mike Lupenec Postgame Interview)

The Detroit Titans (2-1-0) won its second straight match with a 3-0 victory over the IUPUI Jaguars (0-3-0) today at Titan Field.

At 5:47 of the first half, Abby McCollum (La Salle, MI/Monroe) passed the ball from the left side of the field and Sarah Dzuris (Rochester Hills, MI/Rochester) scored her first goal of the year. The goal gave Dzuris points in all three Detroit games this year.

“Abby did a great job fighting off a couple of defenders and setting up Sarah and she hit a good ball into the corner of the net,” said head coach Mike Lupenec.

Alexandra Suschak (Brecksville, OH/Brecksville) gave the Titans a 2-0 lead when she scored on a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box. Just 2:46 into the second half, Suschak's shot stayed on the ground the whole time making its way around the defensive wall and beating the keeper in the bottom left corner of the net. It was Suschak's third goal of the season.

Freshman goaltender Nora Abolins (Demorestville, ON/Centennial) made two saves in net recording her first collegiate shutout.

“It was good team effort because everyone contributed and everybody pitched in for today's win,” added Lupenec. “It's a good win because we're scoring goals and we're still a good defensive team and Nora did an excellent job in goal."

Detroit's third goal came as Nina Carter (Clinton Twp., MI/Chippewa Valley) scored off a rebound. Megan McLalin (Troy, MI/Troy Athens) started the action with a shot and the rebound went right to Carter, who netted her third goal of the year.

Detroit's next action will be on the West Coast as the team will play at San Diego State on Friday, Sept. 3, and at Pepperdine on Sunday, Sept. 5.
