Bruce Fossum Invitational Full Results
The Detroit men's golf team improved their team total by two strokes from round one, and senior
Jeff Clarridge (Barrie, ON/Bear Creek) kept up his strong performance putting in a bid for medalist honors as the Titans concluded play at the Bruce Fossum Invitational. The event was hosted by Michigan State on the Par 72, 7013 yard Forest Akers West Golf Course.
“It's to bad we didn't get the entire tournament in, but we played well and it gave us something to build on,” said head coach
Mark Engel. “Both of our senior leaders really played well for us.”
Detroit totaled a 610 (306, 304) in the rain-shortened 36-hole tournament, just one stroke behind fourth place and two in back of third.
Clarridge shared third with three other golfers posting a 4-over 148 (73, 75), just two shots in back of first. It was Clarridge's 11th career top-10 finish as well as the fourth time he has placed third in his four years at UDM.
“Jeff hit the ball well and played in control despite the bad weather,” added Engel.
Senior
Britt Pronk (London, ON/St. Thomas Aquinas) was the other Titan in the top 10 tying for ninth with a 6-over 150 (76, 74), which included some steady play down the stretch where he was 2-under in his final six holes.
The Titans will have two weeks of practice before hitting the links at the John Dallio Memorial on Sept. 25-26. Detroit took runner-up honors at the event last year, which is hosted by DePaul at the Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Lemont, IL.
