Women’s Basketball Invited To 2011 Preseason WNIT

The Detroit Titans have accepted their invitation to participate in the 2011 Preseason Women's National Invitation Tournament. This will be Detroit's first appearance in the Preseason WNIT, which began in 1994.

“The Detroit Titan women's basketball team is honored to have been selected to participate in the prestigious 2011 Preseason WNIT,” said head coach Autumn Rademacher. “It validates what we are doing on a daily basis and with the experience and leadership we will have in 2011, I fully expect to represent the Horizon League in a very competitive way.”

The WNIT is an annual tournament involving 16 of the nation's top women's Division I basketball teams. A team may participate no more than once in a four-year period. Additionally, only one institution per conference may play in the tournament in the same year.

“We are excited about the direction that the program is going, and felt it was an ideal time to showcase Detroit nationally in the Preseason WNIT,” said WNIT director Renee Carlson.

The event changed to a three-game guarantee format in 2007. All games, including the semifinals and championship, are hosted by participating schools at their home facility.
