Box Score
The University of Detroit women's soccer team ended its two-game West Coast trip on Sunday with a 4-0 setback to the Pepperdine Waves from T.F. Rokus Field.
In the eighth minute,
Kaitlyn Quarrell (Thunder Bay, ON/St. Ignatius) got free in the box and unleashed a hard shot that the Pepperdine goalkeeper had to tip over the bar. On the ensuing corner kick, the Titans'
Rebekah Dornbos (Midland, MI/Midland) received the ball at the far post, but her open shot was directed right on net.
UDM (2-2-1) freshman goalkeeper
Nora Abolins (Demorestville, ON/Centennial) made six out of seven first half saves to keep the game close, but the Waves scored at the 29:06 mark to take a 1-0 lead before adding more offense in the second half.
Detroit kept it close, but three Pepperdine (3-2-0) goals within a fifteen minute span broke the game open for the home team.
“Some girls who have been steady all year made some mistakes today, but it was just one of those games,” said head coach
Mike Lupenec. “In every season you're going to have these types of games and you need to come back and get ready for the next one. We'll learn from these mistakes and get ready for Tuesday.”
The Titans return to action Tuesday afternoon when Detroit visits local rival Eastern Michigan. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
