ESPN announced Monday the 57-game schedule for the ninth annual ESPNU BracketBuster weekend. The event, a three-day men's college basketball extravaganza, features 11 nationally-televised games – on either ESPN2 or ESPNU – selected from a record-high pool of 114 teams on Feb. 18-20. The other teams not selected for a televised game will compete against each other over that same time period.
Detroit drew Drake as its BracketBusters opponent this season and the Titans will make the trek to Des Moines, Iowa on Feb. 19 (game time to be announced). It will be the 20th all-time meeting between the schools with the last meeting coming on Nov. 20, 2005, a 69-61 Bulldog win at the Knapp Center. Drake holds a slim 10-9 edge in the series.
Drake, a member of the Missouri Valley Conference, is 8-14 overall this season, including a 2-8 mark since the start of the calendar year. The Bulldogs are 3-8 in conference and in ninth place in the MVC. They are led by Rayvonte Rice's 12.9 points and 4.9 rebounds per game.
As part of the agreement, all of the BracketBusters home teams will play a “return” game at the home facility of their opponent in November or December of the 2012-13 season.
The field features teams from 14 different conferences, including eight from the Horizon League. Visit espnbracketbusters.com to view all of this year's match-ups. Detroit has played in each of the previous eight BracketBusters, recording a 5-3 mark in those games. This will mark just the third time that the opponent is not from the Mid American Conference (MAC).
