NORMAL, Ill. -- A pair of Titans finished in the top 20 as the Detroit men's golf team ended play at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate by posting a 298 in round three to take sixth place.

“We did not play great on the last few holes to finish up, but overall we had a good tournament,” said head coach Mark Engel. “We beat Illinois State on its home course and we finished ahead of two Big Ten schools, something that I am not sure if we have ever done.”

Detroit ended the three-round tournament with an 895 (298, 299, 298), just two shots out of fifth and four away from fourth. UDM finished higher than host ISU (900) as well as Wisconsin (907) and Nebraska (913). Illinois took home the title with an 852.

Junior Simon Reyers (Kingston, ON/Holy Cross) once again led the way with his third-straight top-20 mark of the season, placing 10th with a 220 (72, 72, 76). He added two more birdies in round three to tally seven for the tournament.

Freshman Lucas Kim (Toronto, ON/Silverthorn) recorded his first collegiate top-20 mark ending in a tie for 11th by carding a 221 (74, 72, 75).

Freshman Michael Nedoszytko (Scarborough, ON/McNeil) turned in the best round for the red, white and blue on Sunday with a two-over 73 to earn a share of 34th. Nedoszytko knocked in five birdies in round three and ended the tournament with a season-best 227 (77, 77, 73).

Senior Mark Hicks (Niagara-On-The-Lake, ON/Niagara) rebounded from a slow start on Saturday to shoot a three-over 74 to finish with a 239, while sophomore Brendan Leonard's (Cambridge, ON/St. Benedict) 230 (75, 78, 77) gave him a share of 48th.

The Titans will be back in action next week as the squad heads to DePaul's John Dallio Memorial. The event begins on Saturday, Oct. 9, and will be held at the Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Chicago.
