DETROIT-- Head Men's Basketball Coach
Ray McCallum and his staff welcome a pair of transfers to the roster,
Juwan Howard, Jr. and
Brandon Romain. Howard, Jr. comes to Detroit after playing a season at Western Michigan University while Romain transferred into the Titan family after spending last season at Westchester Community College.
Howard, the son of former Michigan Fab Five member and NBA'er (currently with Miami Heat) Juwan Howard, played in all 33 games and made two starts for the Broncos in his freshman season. His 9.3 points per game average was third-highest on the squad. He led the team in scoring on five different occasions and had four 20-point efforts as a rookie. He added 4.0 rebounds per game for a Bronco team that qualified for the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT). Howard will practice with the team this season and will be eligible to play to start the 2012-13 season.
"Juwan is a fine young man and a good student who is a true winner," Coach McCallum said. "He comes from a great program at Pershing under Coach A.W. Canada, state champions. He has great passion for the game. It's a great start to our 2012 class."
Romain scored 22 points per contest on 63 percent from the field as a sophomore at WCC. He also played a season (2008-09) at Post University, leading the Eagles with an 18.3 points-per-game average as a freshman, including a 41-point outburst against South Dakota on Nov. 22, 2008.
"Brandon is a junior that gives us an extra perimeter player with good quickness," McCallum said. "He's a good athlete who has a knack for scoring and is a hard worker."
The duo join two other newcomers (
freshman P.J. Boutte and JUCO transfer
junior Doug Anderson) to a roster that did not have a graduating senior last season. The Titans will get their '11-12 season underway next Friday night, Oct. 14 when they host the
"Tip it with the Titans" event at Calihan Hall in conjunction with the first date of full practice. Detroit hosts Madonna University on
Oct. 29 for an exhibition game at 7:00 p.m.
