MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Titans' offense was in high gear all night as the Detroit women's basketball team raced past Ball State, 87-68, for its first win of the season Thursday night at Worthen Arena.

Detroit (1-6) shot a sizzling 61.8% from the field – including 75% in the second half as it hit 21-of-28 shots. UDM was also 12-of-16 from the free throw line, 7-of-15 from three, and played great as a team coming away with 25 assists.

The Titans' 87 points were the most since they netted 90 last season in a 90-76 win at Milwaukee, while their 25 assists are the most since they had 25 in a 76-75 double overtime triumph at Eastern Michigan in 2008.

Four Titans were in double figures led by freshman Shareta Brown's (Grand Blanc, MI/Grand Blanc) 21 points and nine rebounds. The rookie was unstoppable going 7-of-7 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free throw line. She also tallied a season-high five assists, three steals and a block.

Junior Demeisha Fambro (Detroit, MI/Crockett Tech) posted a season-high 21 hitting 9-of-12 field goals, including three 3-pointers. Senior Lauren Allen (Rochester Hills, MI/Rochester) also had a season-best 11 points, while junior Yar Shayok (Ottawa, ON/Hillcrest) was the fourth player in double digits tying her season-high with 11 markers and grabbing five boards.

The Titans raced out to an early lead hitting four of their first five shots from the field and the free throw line, jumping out to a 12-7 advantage just five minutes into the game. The offense kept on clicking throughout the first half as UDM built a 14-point lead on two occasions before taking a 39-28 lead into the break.

Brown alone had 15 points in the first period in a perfect half of basketball for the rookie. She was 4-of-4 from the field and 7-of-7 at the charity stripe.

Detroit was up by six, 19-13, when the red, white and blue used a 12-4 spurt to open its first 14-point lead. After BSU (3-4) cut it to eight, 31-23, the Titans answered with an 8-2 tally to once again take control of the game.

It was more of the same coming out of the break as Allen began the second period with a trey. Ball State was able to pull within 12 at 49-37 at the 16:41 mark, but Detroit put the Cardinals away with a 15-2 run over the next six minutes to open a 25-point advantage, 64-39.

UDM's offense just could not be stopped as it led by as many as 30, including 85-55 with 2:09 left, when the home team ended the game on a 13-2 run to trim the final margin of victory to just 19.

Senior Jalesa Jones (Detroit, MI/Pershing) tallied eight assists, giving her 381 in her career and she is now just three assists away from moving into fifth place in the Titan record books. Sophomore Megan Hatter (Howell, MI/Howell) notched a career-high seven points and five boards, while junior Chanahl Putnam (Almont, MI/Almont) added nine markers.

The Titans will now have a few days of practice before a busy week as Detroit visits in-state rival Michigan State on Tuesday, Dec. 6, before hosting Michigan on Thursday, Dec. 8. The game against the Spartans will tip-off at 7:00 p.m.
