DETROIT -- Members of the University of Detroit Mercy Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) continued one of its initiatives as the Titans once again completed a successful community service project with its “Sandwich Bus”.
“It was a cold day in Detroit, but our student-athletes were determined to fulfill today's initiative and they did just that, said Amy Paling, UDM's Assistant Director of Compliance and the athletic administrator who oversees SAAC. “As always, the project was successful due to the dedication and leadership of all of those involved.”
SAAC started the day preparing over 200 lunches, packing the sandwiches with granola bars, cookies, apples and a juice box.
The group then hit the Motor City stopping at several sites to distribute the items to those in need.
SAAC is a group of student-athletes who are brought together to offer their insight on the experience of being a UDM student-athlete. These student-athletes represent their peers and teammates when offering their input on rules, regulations and policies that affect their everyday lives on the campus. They are a direct link between the University of Detroit Mercy student-athletes and administration. The members of SAAC are very active in the community, sponsoring many community service initiatives as well as organizing student-athlete events and assisting in overall student-athlete well being.
