Live Stats vs. High Point

The women's lacrosse team will face the Davidson Wildcats and the High Point Panthers over the weekend. The contest against Davidson is scheduled for April 1 at 6:00 p.m. while the High Point match up will be on April 3, beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Detroit (1-6, 0-2) opened the NLC season with two road losses in Virginia against Liberty and Longwood. Liberty went on two big scoring streaks in the first half and Detroit kept it close, but in the end they were defeated by the final score of 15-10. Jaimee Stoner (Valencia, CA, Hart),Morgan Lear (San Ramon, CA, Dougherty Valley), and Megan Callahan (Lake Worth, FL, Park Vista Community) all scored their first goal of the season against the Flames in a losing effort.

Corina Mahorn (Whitby, ON, Anderson CVI) and Emily Boissonneault (Brooklin, ON, Donald A. Wilson Secondary) provided the offense against a solid Longwood team, but Detroit fell to 0-2 early in conference play with a loss to the Lancers. Boissonneault has found the back of the net 20 times this season including two times against Longwood. She leads the team with 21 points as she also has an assist on the year. Mahorn is third on the team with 10 goals, which puts Anna Eidem (Champlin, MN, Totino-Grace) at second with her 13.

Marybeth Flanagan (Lansing, MI, Waverly) has played well as the Titan goalkeeper. The sophomore is 24th in the nation with 76 saves through seven games. She cracked the top ten in saves per game averaging 11 stops per contest.

A Look at Davidson (1-9, 0-2 NLC)…
The Wildcats have struggled early in the year, yet their lone win of the season did come at Richardson Stadium. Alanna Parker and Ann Fucigna have played very well offensively sharing the lead in goals scored with 22 each. Fucigna leads the team with five assists giving her a team best 27 points on the year. Parker is tops on the team with 31 draw controls. She averages just over three per game.

Paige Logan has also contributed to Davidson's season with 10 goals and three assists for 13 points on the year. She is a well rounded midfielder that also has 11 ground balls, 12 draw controls and seven caused turnovers so far in the 2011 season.

Goalkeeper Jessica Melby has recorded 71 saves for Davidson ranking her 29th nationally. Melby has faced 284 shots in just over 600 minutes of action. She holds a .346 save percentage, and like Flanagan she is the only goalkeeper on the team.

A Look at High Point (7-3, 1-1 NLC)…
Detroit will have to slow down Grace Gaeng and Chelsea Thompson in order to beat High Point. Gaeng is tied for 10th in the nation with 47 points midway through the season. Thompson isn't far behind with 39 points placing her at 19th. Both players are ranked nationally in points per game. Gaeng's average is just under five placing her at 13th. Thompson nearly records four points per contest good enough for 28th.

Gaeng, the reigning NLC Player of the Week, is averaging a hat trick this season. The sophomore is 16th nationally in goals per game (3.20).

High Point's defensive leader is Kelsey Kirby. The sophomore is one spot ahead of Emily Boissonneault in the caused turnover category. Kirby is in a tie for 10th (2.10 per game), while Boisonneault is in 12th (2.00).

The duo of Kirby and Christie Dougherty are a big reason why the Panthers lead the nation in ground balls per game. Both Kirby and Dougherty are in the top 20 in that category at nearly three per contest. High Point averages 29 ground balls per game, combine that with the fact that they also rank in the top 10 in points with 203 through 10 games and you can see why they are 7-3 overall.

Detroit is also nationally ranked in ground balls per game. The Titans enter the weekend at 10th averaging 20 per game. Nine Titans have recorded over 10 ground balls this season. Boissonneault leads the way with 18, yet Zaynib Hamze (Dublin, CA, Dublin) is close behind with 17 in just five games.

A Glance Ahead…
Detroit will return to Titan Field after this weekend to host games against Jacksonville and Presbyterian. They also have Ohio State on the schedule for a midweek contest on April 12.

Davidson will host Howard on Sunday after playing the Titans on Friday. The following weekend they will hit the road to play Liberty in Lynchburg, Va.

High Point will host Howard on Friday before facing Detroit on Sunday. After Sunday's contest the Panthers will return to action at Longwood on April 10.
