DETROIT – The women's lacrosse team was defeated by UC Davis on Sunday by the final score of 21-11.
Anna Eidem (Champlin, MN, Totino-Grace) and
Emily Boissonneault (Brooklin, ON, Donald A. Wilson Secondary) each recorded a hat trick for Detroit.
UC Davis got off to a hot start in the cold weather conditions as the Aggies opened up an eight goal lead to start the game. Detroit fought back and rattled off four in a row to cut the lead in half, but the final six minutes belonged to UC Davis as the Aggies enjoyed a 14-4 lead at halftime.
The second half was even as each team scored seven goals which led to the 21-11 victory for UC Davis. Elizabeth Datino scored a game-high six goals for the Aggies, while Gina Hoffmire also impacted the game with a five goal performance.
Eidem played well offensively for Detroit. She scored the first goal of the game for the Titans at the 13:04 mark in the first half. Eidem continued to battle for all sixty minutes as she also scored the final two goals of the game.
Boissonneault also scored one goal in the first half to go along with two in the second for her hat trick. The junior scored an unassisted goal with 6:27 remaining in the opening half. She led the charge offensively in the second half by scoring the first two goals for Detroit.
Corina Mahorn (Whitby, ON, Anderson CVI) scored her first two goals of the season against the Aggies. Mahorn got her offensive game going with two goals in the second half of play. Other Titans to beat the Aggie goalkeeper include
Zaynib Hamze (Dublin, CA, Dublin),
Erin Campbell (Orangeville, ON, Orangeville District Secondary), and
Tara Grady (San Jose, CA, Pioneer). Hamze recorded a game-high four ground balls for Detroit.
Detroit will return to action with a road game at Cincinnati next week. The Titans will face the Bearcats on March 11. Opening draw is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
