Live Stats vs Cincinnati

Live Stats vs Duquesne

The Titans have two games on the schedule this weekend. Detroit will travel to Cincinnati for their first road contest of the season to face the Bearcats on Friday afternoon. UDM will then return to Titan Field to host Duquesne on March 13. Opening draw is set for 2:00 p.m.

Detroit (0-2) will play a Cincinnati team that has faced a number of National Lacrosse Conference programs this season. The Bearcats (1-4) opened the year playing against three NLC teams. They lost to Jacksonville (18-10) and High Point (15-7), but they were able to pick up their lone win of the year against Davidson (13-10). Other games on Cincinnati's schedule include a 17-3 road loss to Vanderbilt and most recently a 16-5 home loss to Oregon.

Katie Liberatore and Kylie Ramsland have each recorded eight points for the Bearcats. Liberatore has five goals and three assists on the year, while Ramsland is even with four goals and four assists in 2011. The leading goal scorer for Cincinnati is junior Laura Simanski. Simanski has six goals off 13 shots.

Defensively, the Bearcats look to Paige Stratton for leadership. The senior leads the team with 10 ground balls and six caused turnovers. Jen Walsh is the last line of defense as the Cincinnati goalkeeper. Walsh is 1-3 on the year with 51 saves through five games. She is allowing just over 15 goals per season.

A trio of Titans got off to a hot start in 2011. Anna Eidem (Champlin, MN, Totino-Grace)Emily Boissonneault (Brooklin, ON, Donald A. Wilson Secondary), and Erin Campbell (Orangeville, ON, Orangeville District Secondary) have provided Detroit with offense through the first two games. Eidem and Boissonneault are tied for the team lead in goals with five each. Boissonneault has an assist which gives her a team-high six points on the year. Campbell is even with Eidem with five points. The sophomore has three goals and two assists.

Detroit will look to adjust from their previous two games in order to come out victorious. “I think we did some good things on defense in our game against Canisius, and I think our attack did a better job of taking care of the ball in our UC Davis game,” head coach Mary Ann Meltzer said. “Now, we need to put those games together and hopefully we can get a win.”

Corina Mahorn (Whitby, ON, Anderson CVI) has impacted the team from her midfield position. Mahorn has caused a team-high five turnovers for Detroit and she has also won five draw controls.  Newcomer Rebekah Dornbos (Midland, MI, Midland) has done a nice job collecting four ground balls on the year, and Zaynib Hamze (Dublin, CA, Dublin) is the team leader in the category with six ground balls.

“We need to do a better job defensively,” Meltzer added. “We were slow getting to the slides. We spent a lot of time this week working on our transitional game both offensively and defensively.”

Duquesne (2-2) opened the year with an 18-9 win over St. Francis (Pa), and their most recent victory was a home game against UMBC (8-7). Katie Rekart leads the Dukes in points with nine goals and three assists. Duquesne has another threat on the offensive side of the field as sophomore Meredith Dunn also has nine goals this season. Defensively, the Dukes will use goalkeeper Liz Walker on Sunday. Walker has 29 saves through four games.
