HIGHLAND, Mich. -- Detroit entered today's final round of the Detroit Titans Invitational up by seven strokes and finished the day atop the field totaling a team score of 895, seven ahead of Humber College of Toronto. Junior
Mark Hicks (Niagara-On-The-Lake/Niagara) won the individual title shooting 220 over the three days.
The Titans shot 295 as a team in the final round and finished with three of the top five individual scores and four in the top eight.
Hicks finished in first with a 220 score after carding a 76 on the final day. Senior
Jeff Clarridge (Barrie, ON/Bear Creek) finished at 222 (72, 75, 75) in third place and sophomore
Simon Reyers (Kingston, ON/Holy Cross) shared the second best mark in the final round shooting a 71. He tallied a 225 (76, 78, 71) overall, good for fifth place. Senior
Britt Pronk (London, ON/St. Thomas Aquinas) finished in a tie for eighth overall at 228 (80, 75, 73) with a final round of 73.
Detroit led the entire tournament after ending the first round up by one stroke and finishing the second up by seven. Today's 295 gave the Titans a score of 895 over three days (301, 299, 295) while Humber finished at 902 (302, 305, 295) and third place Loyola-Chicago recorded 914.
Hicks totaled the best overall score of the tournament after sharing a tie of the best day-one score totaling a one-under par at 71.
“I didn't play great. I had to make a lot of putts today but I managed to birdie on 18 which ended up getting me the win by one,” said Hicks.
Detroit will head to the Horizon League Tournament to be played at Howey-in-the-Hills, FL from Apr. 22-24.
