DETROIT -- The Detroit Titan Athletic Department announced today that Mary Ann Meltzer will step down as head coach, effective at the completion of the 2011 season. She is in her third year at the helm of Detroit.
"I'd like to thank Coach Meltzer for serving the Detroit Titan women's lacrosse program the last three years,” said Athletic Director Keri Gaither. "She has been a wonderful representative of Titan Athletics and has done a terrific job of building the foundation of the UDM lacrosse program, which will continue to grow and flourish as a result of what she was able to accomplish during her time with Detroit."
Meltzer coached Detroit to 15 wins since the inaugural season in 2009. The Titans are currently 3-10 overall, with three games left to play in the regular season. Before taking the job at Detroit, Meltzer served as the head coach for the University of Michigan's club team.
Overall highlights from Meltzer's tenure at the University of Detroit Mercy includes winning their first-ever game 20-1 over Howard University, recording two wins in the National Lacrosse Conference Tournament, and most recently recording back-to-back wins in the conference over Presbyterian and Howard. Detroit also had three players named to the NLC All-Academic Honor Roll under Meltzer's guidance.
Detroit will begin the search for a new head coach after the completion of the National Lacrosse Conference Tournament which is being held from April 29 – May 1 in Davidson, N.C.
