ALFRED, N.Y. – The women's lacrosse team was defeated by St. Bonaventure on Saturday afternoon by the final score of 21-7. Injuries forced junior
Alycsa Valentine to move from defender to goalkeeper for Detroit. She made four saves in the second half.
Emily Boissonneault scored a team-high four goals for the Titans.
Anna Eidem,
Corina Mahorn, and
Zaynib Hamze rounded out the scoring effort for Detroit.
Christine Hanley and Emily Kane sparked the offensive charge for the Bonnies. Each player ended the game with a hat trick. Amanda Cizenski, Lauren Michaels, and Cara Callahan all impacted the game with two goals each.
Alycsa Valentine was forced to play goalkeeper for the second half of the game due to
Jenna Alberts being out with a concussion. Valentine had never previously played the position for Detroit, yet she came up with four saves against the Bonnies.
Valentine used her background as a hockey goalie against St. Bonaventure on Saturday. “I had to step up to help the team,” Valentine explained. “When I was younger I played goalie for my hockey team. Today I tried to use some of the same mechanics that I learned in hockey. I tried to hold my spot, stay patient, and just follow the ball.”
The Titans ended the regular season with a 3-13 overall record, including a 2-5 mark in the National Lacrosse Conference. The NLC Tournament will begin on April 29.
