DETROIT – The Detroit women's lacrosse team was defeated by the Jacksonville Dolphins on Friday afternoon by the final score of 22-3. Freshman
Jenna Alberts made her first career start in goal for the Titans.
Jacksonville (10-4, 5-0 NLC) scored the first 10 goals of the game and they never looked back, claiming a 22-3 win. Jen Cosgrove came off the bench to score four goals while adding two assists against the Titans. Sarah Michel also netted four goals as a reserve.
The Jacksonville starters were also highly involved in the offense. Kayleigh Hynes and Nikki Erdely each scored four goals for the Dolphins. Ellyn Spangenberg, Chelsea Watts, Amanda Hurley, and Ali Hoffman rounded out the scoring effort for Jacksonville.
Detroit (1-9, 0-5 NLC) got goals from
Emily Boissonneault,
Anna Eidem, and
Zaynib Hamze. Boissonneault now has 28 goals on the season, a team-high.
Each goalkeeper saw a lot of action in Friday's matchup.
Jenna Alberts was forced to step up as the Detroit goalkeeper after an injury sidelined
Marybeth Flanagan. Alberts made 12 stops in her debut, which included making a save against the first free position shot she has ever faced. Karli Tobin picked up the win for Jacksonville. Tobin had a solid game with 14 saves.
The Titans will return to action on Sunday with a game against Presbyterian at 11:00 a.m. A free pancake breakfast will be served for those fans in attendance. Looking ahead to next week, Detroit will host Ohio State on Tuesday. Draw control is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
