MILWAUKEE, Wis.--  Hot perimeter shooting pushed the host Milwaukee Panthers past Detroit, 84-74, Saturday night at U.S. Cellular Arena in Horizon League play.  Milwaukee made 10 triples in the first half en route to a 20-point halftime cushion to remain atop the league standings.

Just as Thursday's game began, the tempo was fast-paced from the tip.  Detroit (9-11, 3-5 HL) held a quick 7-5 lead until Milwaukee (13-6, 6-1) ran off 11 straight points and it was 16-7 before the first timeout.  Kaylon Williams hit a long three as the shot clock expired to stretch the Panther lead to 10 with just over seven minutes gone.

That would be the theme of the opening half as Milwaukee knocked down a staggering 10 threes on 16 attempts to lead 51-31 at the break.  Six different Panthers had at least one make from distance, led by four from Paris Gulley, who hit 4-of-5 for 15 first-half points.  Detroit's Ray McCallum had all three of the Titans' makes from deep for 13 points in the opening stanza.

The Milwaukee advantage grew to as many as 26 in the opening minutes of the second half.  Detroit then began to gradually chip away at the large deficit.  The Titans held the Panthers without a field goal for nearly three-and-a-half minutes to trim the lead down to 15 midway through the period.

Another big three from James Haarsma quelled the brief momentum shift, however.  With the deficit at 18 and 6:46 on the clock, Detroit held firm defensively and scored eight straight points over the next 2:25 to inch within ten.

Milwaukee entered the game as the league's worst shooting team from the free-throw line and Detroit attempted to use that to its advantage in the final minutes to make a late push.  After Kaylon Williams split a pair from the stripe, Eli Holman flushed one home to put the score within single digits for the first time since the opening minutes.

Jason Calliste hit a three moments later and the deficit was just eight with 1:39 to play.  McCallum hit a layup for a 79-72 score, but it got no closer as the Panthers hit on five of their final six free-throw attempts to seal the win.

Detroit was led by McCallum's 23 points.  The sophomore also had four assists, two steals and two rebounds.  Senior Chase Simon added 14 points while Holman etched his first double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds off the bench for Detroit.

Milwaukee had four players in double figures, led by Paris Gulley's 26 points on 6-of-9 shooting from distance.

Detroit embarks on a three-game homestand beginning next Saturday with a 12:00 p.m. tip against Wright State.  The homecoming contest is set for broadcast on FOX Sports Detroit HD with Dan Dickerson and former Titan great Earl Cureton on the call.
