PORTLAND, Ore. -- Senior fencer
Michael Purdy-Sachs was at the North American Cup in Portland, OR Monday and he finished in the round of 64 for the second straight NAC. Purdy-Sachs finished 50th overall at the North American Cup on Dec. 9 in Kansas City, MO and at this tournament placed in a three-way tie for 48th out of 169 men's foil fencers.
Purdy-Sachs passed through pool play in the tournament and onto the direct elimination round seeded in the 50th spot. The seeding earned a first round match-up with Darren Mei from Northern, CA. Purdy-Sachs won the bout 15-6 and advanced to the next round against the No. 15 seed Jacob Stein. Purdy-Sachs would fall 15-11 as Stein would go on to finish 12th overall at the event.
Purdy-Sachs will rejoin the Titans who will hit the road for a pair of competitions in New York. On Jan. 21, they will compete in the West Point Duals in West Point, NY and then will be part of the Vassar Quads in Poughkeepsie, NY on Jan. 22.
