Horizon League Release
INDIANAPOLIS (11/19/2012) -- After two dominating performances that led Detroit to a pair of victories, sophomore
Shareta Brown was named the Horizon League Co-Player of the Week, announced the conference office on Monday afternoon. Brown shares the honor with Youngstown State senior Brandi Brown.
The second-year forward averaged 29 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists in the two wins. She started the week with 24 points, eight rebounds and tying for the game high with five assists versus Canisius and came back with a career-high 34 points on a career-best 13 field goals along with seven boards at Eastern Michigan.
The 34 points by Brown were the most by a Titan since Molly Peterman had 35 against UIC on Jan. 24, 2002, an 83-65 UDM victory. She wins the award for the fifth time in her career as she garnered four POW honors as a freshman last season.
On the year, she is averaging a league-high 25.7 points, 7.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game, while shooting 56.9% from the field – third in the Horizon League.
Brown and the Titans will spend Thanksgiving in California as they play in the Radisson Hotel Chatsworth Thanksgiving Basketball Tournament at Cal State Northridge. UDM will open the tournament on Friday against nationally-ranked Penn State at 5:30 p.m., (EST) with the championship/consolation game to follow on Saturday.
