Four Titans Earn All-Conference Honors From Inside Lacrosse

DETROIT (12/14/12) -- Last week, it was revealed that senior LSM Jordan Houtby was tabbed an Honorable Mention All-American by Inside Lacrosse in its face-off yearbook and now it is time for some more preseason accolades with the publication's preseason All-Conference selections.

Houtby along with senior defenseman Jamie Hebden, junior attackman Shayne Adams and junior defensive midfielder Nick Garippa were all honored on the Inside Lacrosse Coaches' Preseason All-Conference team, while the Titans were picked to finish fourth in the MAAC.

Houtby – who is the NCAA current active leader in caused turnovers with 123 – was also noted in the MAAC write-up in the “Breakthrough Star” category. He has earned a number of accolades during his time at Detroit, including back-to-back MAAC LSM of the Year awards, Second Team All-MAAC, MAAC All-Tournament and team MVP as a sophomore and the Titans' Defensive Player of the Year as a freshman.

Hebden is also among the current NCAA active leaders in caused turnovers as he is tied for second with 85. A team captain, he has twice earned a selection to the MAAC Second Team and was named Detroit's Defensive Player of the Year as a sophomore and junior.

Adams is a two-time All-MAAC selection with first team honors as a freshman and second team last season. He enters 2013 as UDM's record holder in goals (68), while standing third in points (78). He is also fifth in the nation among active players with 2.27 goals per game, and led Detroit last year with 33 goals – tied for the fourth most in the MAAC – on his way to being tabbed the Titans' Offensive Player of the Year.

Garippa has steadily improved since his freshman year and has excelled as Detroit's short stick defensive midfielder, collecting 26 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers in his two seasons. His athleticism, speed and size gives him a great combination to defend all types of players.

In the coaches' poll, Siena was picked to finish first, while Marist and Canisius were slated second and third, respectively. After Detroit at four, Jacksonville was fifth, VMI sixth and Manhattan seventh. The top four teams in the standings will move on to the MAAC Championship, held at Canisius from May 3-5.

The Titans are finishing up finals before heading home on Christmas break. They will return in January to start preparing for the new season, which opens on Feb. 9 at Ohio State.
