Biography

2013: A great season to end his collegiate career as he was named All-MAAC First Team, MAAC All-Tournament and Team MVP… A team captain, he started all 15 games at defense and topped the team with 38 caused turnovers and was fourth picking up 42 ground balls… Once again helped the Titans finish in the top three in caused turnovers for the fourth-straight year as the squad was tied for second with 10.00 per game… The leader on defense also helped Detroit finish with a school record 9.90 goals against average… Was second in the nation in caused turnovers at 2.53 per game – trailing only Villanova's John LoCascio's 3.79… He caused a turnover in all 15 games, including two or more 12 times and three or more on four occasions… Tallied his second career assist at Navy intercepting a pass on defense and streaking down the field before finding Shayne Adams for the goal… In that contest, he also had five caused turnovers and five ground balls to earn the MAAC’s Defensive Player of the Week… Had three caused turnovers and four ground balls against Quinnipiac…Posted a school record seven caused turnovers and came away with six ground balls in the win versus VMI… Recorded four caused turnovers in the win over Manhattan… Had two caused TO’s and three GB’s in the MAAC Semifinals victory over top-seeded Marist and two caused turnovers and a ground ball in the win over Siena in the title game… Credited with two caused turnovers and two ground balls in the first round of the NCAA Championship at #2 Notre Dame… Second on the team with 11 penalties totaling 9.5 minutes… Started the year by being selected Preseason All-MAAC by Inside Lacrosse and the conference… Won the Reverend Nobert Heutter Award at the Annual Titan Academic and Athletic Honors Dinner which is presented to a student-athlete who has demonstrated leadership, dedication, cooperation with teammates and coaches, pride in team achievements, determination to excel, and graciousness in victory or defeat... A member of the Detroit Athletic Director’s Honor Roll… Left as the school leader with 59 career starts in his 60 games played and also finished his career with 168 ground balls and 123 caused turnovers, which is the second most in NCAA history at the time of his graduation.

2012: An All-MAAC Second Team selection for the second year in a row…Tabbed the team’s Defensive Player of the Year…Also one of the Titan captains…Always called upon to guard the other team's best offensive player…Part of a Titan team that led the country with 10.47 caused turnovers per game…Started all 14 games he appeared in, missing the regular season finale at VMI and the MAAC Championship semifinals due to injury…Ended the regular season second on the team with 21 caused turnovers and third with 38 ground balls…Was 35th in the nation with 1.32 caused turnovers per game...Came away with a season-best five ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers at Georgetown and at Quinnipiac…Tied his career high with four caused turnovers along with adding four GB’s against Siena…Added four ground balls and two caused TO’s at Canisius and at Manhattan…Recorded three caused turnovers versus Jacksonville…Tied for second on the team with eight penalties…A member of the Titan Athletic Director’s Honor Roll.

2011: Selected to the All-MAAC second team after compiling career highs in caused turnovers and ground balls…Also named Detroit’s Defensive Player of the Year after being part of a defensive unit that ended the season leading the country in caused turnovers at 11.63 per game…Played in all 16 games, with 15 starts…Was fifth in the country in caused turnovers at 2.5 per game, while his 40 total caused TO’s were also the fifth-most in the nation…Second on the team and in the MAAC in both categories behind teammate Jordan Houtby…Also picked up 60 ground balls for second on the squad and fifth in the conference…Was 52nd in the nation in ground balls per game tallying 3.75 per contest…Caused a turnover in 14 of the Titans’ 16 games, including a career-best five in the 9-8 MAAC tournament semifinals victory against Marist…Had four caused TO’s in MAAC games against Canisius and Jacksonville as well as a nonconference game at Mount St. Mary’s…Recorded three caused turnovers and a career-high eight ground balls in the MAAC championship game versus Siena…Picked up seven GB’s against the Dolphins of JU…Had six GB’s versus the Mountaineers and five against Lehigh…Tied for fourth on the squad with seven penalties totaling 4.5 minutes…Attempted one shot on the year against Mercer.

2010: Made a name for himself on the defensive side of the field starting all 15 games, helping the Titans finish third in the nation with 10.47 caused turnovers per game… Finished 25th in the NCAA with 1.6 turnovers per game and was second on the team with 24 total caused turnovers…That number was the third most of any freshmen in the country, trailing only teammate Jordan Houtby (32) and Cornell’s Jason Noble (27)…Caused a TO in 12 of the 15 games, including a career best four versus Quinnipiac and three against VMI and Wagner…Collected 28 ground balls...Recorded his only point on an assist, setting up a score by Chris Nemes against Wagner…Had five games with 3+ ground balls coming up with three in his first collegiate game against Bellarmine as well as against Ohio State, Quinnipiac and Wagner…Had a season-best four GB’s at Manhattan…Earned a spot on the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll.

Prior to Detroit: A standout defenseman for one of the top programs in Michigan…Helped his team to a No. 1 state ranking in the state as a senior…Part of the Inside Lacrosse High School National Championship team in 2008…That year, the Warriors finished 25-0 winning the state and Midwest championship…Brother Rice would go on to win the Catholic League three times and the MHSAA twice during his tenure.

Personal: Son of Kathy and Jim Hebden…Has one brother, Andy, a freshman on the lacrosse team…His dad played soccer at Purdue, while his uncle played lacrosse at Notre Dame, and his cousin, Ainsley, played lacrosse at Virginia…His grandfather graduated from the University of Detroit…A biology major.
