HIGHLAND, Mich. -- The men's golf team took 17 shots off its round two score and moved up four spots as the Detroit Titans Invitational came to an end on Saturday afternoon. The two-day tournament was held at Prestwick Village Golf Club in Highland.
“We were not at our best yesterday, but we came back today and made the improvements we needed to make,” said head coach Mark Engel.  “It was good for us to go out there and put in a real strong round as we get ready for the Horizon League Championship.”
UDM placed sixth in the 13-team field with an 895 (300, 306, 289), just one stroke out of fifth and three away from fourth.  It was the 13th round on the year that the Titans have shot under a 300.
Loyola won the 54-hole event with an 865 just ahead of Ferris State (866), while Western Illinois' Kurt Slattery was the medalist finishing with a 209.
Individually, junior 
Simon Reyers (Kingston, ON/Holy Cross) posted another top-10 finish by carding a 1-under 71 for the second-straight round to earn eighth with a 216 (74, 71, 71) total. It was his third top-10 effort on the year and his second in a row. He had 12 birdies in the tournament and an eagle, while ending the event with an even 3.00 average on the course's Par 3's, the third-best mark in the field.
“Simon played well and he really carried us on his back yesterday and put in another great day today,” said Engel 
Freshman 
Michael Nedoszytko (Scarborough, ON/McNeil) tied for 23rd with a 226 (75, 78, 73), including a 1-over 73 on the final 18, while sophomore 
Brendan Leonard (Cambridge, ON/St. Benedict) carded a 227 (73, 79, 75) to share 25th. Freshman 
Lucas Kim (Toronto, ON/Silverthorn) posted one of the best rounds for the Titans with a 1-under 71 on Saturday to place 29th with a 228 (78, 79, 71).
“It was good for Lucas and for Mike to finish strong and on a high note in their final rounds,” said Engel. “The team played well and now we will have some time to get in a few practices before finals and the Horizon League Championship.
The Horizon League championship is scheduled for April 27-29 at the Mission Inn Resort El Campeon Course in Howey-in-the-Hills, FL. UDM has won a conference-best seven championships.
