Mahorn Postgame Interview

DETROIT -- Senior Anna Eidem (Champlin, MN/Totino-Grace) put in a game-high six goals and Detroit never trailed as the Titan women's lacrosse team ended the regular season with a 14-11 victory over Cincinnati on Monday afternoon.

UDM pushed its record to 7-8 on the year, tying its record for most wins in a season with the 2010 squad as the Titans prepare for this weekend's National Lacrosse Conference Tournament.

Eidem also added two assists for eight points as well as four ground balls and two draw controls. She now has 62 goals on the year, just six away from tying the school record. Senior Emily Boissonneault (Brooklin, ON/Donald A. Wilson) posted three goals, four ground balls and three caused turnovers, while senior Corina Mahorn (Whitby, ON/Anderson CVI) added two goals and three draw controls.

The seniors opened up the scoring as markers from Boissonneault and Mahorn had the Titans up 2-0, seven minutes in. Cincinnati (3-13) would tie it up, but the red, white and blue made its first big run with a 4-0 spurt during the middle of the first half.

Boissonneault started it with a goal and then Eidem fed junior Zaynib Hamze (Dublin, CA/Dublin) for one of her two goals on the day as she eclipsed her career mark for points in a season with 25. Eidem then tallied two-straight goals to give UDM a 6-2 lead with 13:10 left and Detroit would have a four-goal advantage at the break, 8-4.

The teams would trade goals in the first 20 minutes of the second half as the Titans continued to lead by four, 11-7. Boissonneault had a goal in that span and Eidem had two more. Another strike from Eidem gave the Titans a 12-7 lead with 6:19 left.

Sophomore Megan Callahan (Lake Worth, FL/Park Vista Community) notched her first goal of the year and the third of her career with 3:44 to go and Mahorn ripped one past the goalie with under 10 seconds left to close out the four-year senior classes career on Titan Field.

Detroit outhustled the Bearcats for ground balls, 27-17, while forcing eight of Cincinnati's 17 turnovers. It was also UDM's first career victory against Cincinnati in its fourth-ever meeting.

Freshman Tessa Keuler (Oregon City, OR/Oregon City) had two assists in the game and set a Titan record with 16 on the season. Junior Britany Busch (Clio, MI/Powers Catholic) had two caused turnovers and four ground balls, while sophomore Morgan Lear (San Ramon, CA/Dougherty Valley) had one caused turnover and a pair of GB's.

Freshman Lexie McCormick (Peterborough, ON/St. Peters) made a season-high 14 saves and also picked up a career-best seven ground balls.

Detroit will now get ready for the NLC Tournament, where it will be the No. 3 seed and face No. 6 Liberty on Friday. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m., at NLC-host Davidson.
