Holman To Play For Houston Rockets NBA Summer League Team

Houston Rockets Summer League Release .

HOUSTON – Eli Holman will get his shot to impress NBA coaches and scouts this summer as the Titan forward has signed with the Houston Rockets and will play in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. The Houston Rockets officially announced their NBA Summer League roster on Friday evening.

“This is such a great opportunity for Eli,” said UDM head coach Ray McCallum. “He put in a lot of hard work here at Detroit and I am happy that he will get a chance to compete at a high level.”

The 2012 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas will feature 24 teams competing in a 60-game schedule from July 13-22 at the Thomas & Mack Center and the COX Pavilion on the campus of UNLV. Houston's first game is set for opening day – July 13 – against Toronto.

Holman – who graduated from UDM with a bachelor's degree in communications - was a big part of the Titan turnaround and a Horizon League championship and NCAA Tournament appearance. He transferred to UDM from Indiana in 2008, but sat out that year due to NCAA transfer rules as the Titans finished in last place for the second-straight year. From that point on, Detroit made its rise to the top culminating by winning the Horizon League Championship this past season and earning a No. 15 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

He averaged 11.5 points and 8.6 rebounds in his three years with the Titans, while shooting 61.0% from the field. He also ended his collegiate career with 163 blocks in the Motor City, a number that stands second in school history. He totaled 29 double doubles and earned such accolades as selections to the Horizon League All-Newcomer Team, the HL All-Defensive Team as well as the conference's Sixth Player of the Year.

As a sophomore in his first season suiting up for the Titans, he helped Detroit to a 20-14 record, UDM's first 20-win campaign since the 2000-01 season. He was named to the Horizon League All-Newcomer Team after posting 11.8 ppg., and a HL-best 8.9 rebounds per game. His 2.5 blocks per game topped the Horizon League and was third in school history, while his 77 total blocks were the fourth most in a single season in UDM annals. His .614 field goal percentage was also first in the league and third in Titan history.

The following season, Holman was the team's Robert Calihan co-Most Valuable Player, and was an All-Horizon League Second Team and All-HL Defensive Team honoree. He once again tallied 11.8 ppg., to go with a conference-best 9.6 rebounds. He collected 13 double doubles and his rebound total was 31st in the NCAA. He also swatted 51 shots and came away with 30 steals.

He missed 10 games to start his senior year, but came back with a vengeance averaging 10.8 points and 7.0 rebounds per game, mostly off the bench. His work as a reserve propelled him to the Horizon League Sixth Man of the Year. He was also named to the Mid-Major Defensive All-America Team by CollegeInsider.com. He crossed the 1,000-point threshold late in the season - ending his career with 1,024 points - and even tallied a double double with 10 points and 11 rebounds in UDM's NCAA Tournament game against nationally-ranked Kansas

The NBA Summer League – which is in its eighth year of existence - has showcased some great young talent and future stars in the NBA recently, with six of the last seven NBA Rookie of the Year Award winners playing including: Chris Paul (New Orleans Hornets, 2005-06), Brandon Roy (Portland Trail Blazers, 2006-07), Kevin Durant (Oklahoma City, 2007-08), Tyreke Evans (Sacramento, 2009-10), Blake Griffin (L.A. Clippers, 2010-11) and Kyrie Irving (Cleveland Cavaliers 2011-12).

NBA TV will televise all 60 games, including 39 live. Games will also be available on digital platforms.
