DETROIT (5/7/2026) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team has signed another transfer, and this one will bring some success on the international and Division II level in
Elías Pálsson.
Pálsson - a 6-7, 200-lb forward/guard - hails from Njardvik, Iceland, and was an All-Conference performer at Augusta University.
"Elías is a smart, well-rounded student-athlete who works extremely hard and really blossomed last season," said head coach
Mark Montgomery. "He has some size and can shoot the ball, but his skill set is still developing and continues to improve."
He was selected First Team All-Peach Belt Conference this past season after averaging 16.7 points and 4.0 rebounds, shooting 44.4% from the field, 39.6% from three, and 76.3% at the free-throw line. He netted double figures in scoring in 23 games, including 11 games with 20 or more and a pair of 30-point outings with 35 at Fayetteville State and a career-high 38 at USC Aiken.
As a freshman, he tallied 7.4 points and 2.2 rebounds in 30 games played.
In his two years, he has drained 97 triples, dished out 70 assists, and registered 37 steals.
He played with the Iceland National Team at the FIBA U20 EuroBasket Championship, the FIBA U20 European Championship, and the FIBA U18 Division B European Championship.
He joins a recruiting class that includes four incoming freshmen in Keaton Aldridge Jr. (Indianapolis, Ind.), Greg Grays Jr. (Detroit, Mich.), Chance Houser (Detroit, Mich.), and James Martin (Muskegon, Mich.), as well as Wayne State transfer Jordan Briggs.
