MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (1/11/2013) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's indoor track and field team was in action Friday evening at the Central Michigan Invitational and
Charles Anthony continued his winning ways lowering his personal best in the 60-meter dash to 6.95.
The 60-meter race was his fifth straight individual race with a first-place finish before coming in third in the 200m race later in the evening.
It was the first time Anthony went below the 7.00 mark in his career as he became just the fourth Titan to break the 7.00 barrier.
Anthony won his fifth of five races in the indoor season after winning the 60m and the 200m races at Notre Dame on Dec. 7 and then winning both again at the University of Windsor on Dec. 15.
Anthony would see his successive win streak in individual events come to a close as he took third in the 200m at 22.90.
The reigning Horizon League weight throw champion
Eric Lewis placed first in that event at 17.48m/57-4.25, not far off his school record throw last season of 57-11.75. Also in the weight throw,
Jeff Sherman was a finalist placing sixth and setting a new personal record at 14.84m/48-8.25, while freshman
Jake Millyard claimed 10th with a 13.38m/43-10.75 toss.
The long jump saw Ja'Quan Patterson come in third at 6.84m/22-05.25.
In the 60-meter hurdles,
Vince Lefler qualified for the finals with an 8.55 time before finishing fifth at 8.50.
In the mile run,
Bob Radlich was the top Titan coming in fourth at 4:25.26, while
Ryan Hofsess won the second heat with a PR of 4:30.74 and placed eighth overall.
In the 400-meters,
Colton Wirgau came in second in heat No. 2 at 53.15 and ended up in fourth place in that event, while in the 600-meters,
Joe Raffin captured a victory in heat one at 1:24.58 and ended up placing third overall.
The men's 4x400-meter relay team of Lefler, Raffin,
Anthony Donald, and
Chris Smalley came in fourth place with an overall time of 3:31.40.
The next event for the Titans will be next weekend on Saturday, Jan. 19, as UDM will head to Ann Arbor to participate in a meet hosted by the University of Michigan.
