DETROIT (2/10/2013) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's and women's fencing teams hosted their annual alumni event at Calihan Hall on Sunday as Titan fencers from all years were in attendance.
A number of UDM fencing alumni were on hand to take in the day's festivities which offered all the alumni the opportunity to fence against the 2012-13 Titan varsity fencers.
The alumni came out on top with a 32-15 victory.
“Maestro [Richard} Perry use to say that the winning 1972 NCAA championship team lost two meets that year, one at Notre Dame and the other was the alumni meet,” said current UDM men's and women's fencing head coach
Todd Dressell.
Over 15 alumni were back on the University of Detroit Mercy campus on Dick Vitale Court to fence, talk about the good old days, and make new memories with this year's Titan fencers.
Following the fencing, the group moved up to the Titan Club for a few refreshments, have some good food, and talk about Detroit Titans fencing.
“I am really happy with how it all went today,” said Dressell. “We had a good turnout, great competition, a great chance to meet with the alums and reminisce a little bit, and our fencers fenced reasonably well.”
The next competition for the 2013 Titans will be on Feb. 23 as UDM will head to South Bend, Ind. to compete in the Notre Dame Duals.
