Game #26: Detroit To Battle Milwaukee On Senior Day

GAMEDAY CENTRAL       Game Notes

DETROIT (3/1/2013) --
Looking to end a three-game slide, the Detroit Titans will look for the season sweep against Milwaukee on Senior Day Saturday at Dick Vitale Court in Calihan Hall. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m., with Senior Day festivities honoring Demeisha Fambro and Yar Shayok starting prior to the start of the contest.

The game will be Free Admission to all fans as part of Student Appreciation and Senior Day, with Detroit hosting a men's lacrosse game at 11:00 a.m.

The game will be broadcast live on the Horizon League Network with Dan York calling all of the action. There will also be live stats available for the contest. Titan fans can follow every UDM game this season through the women's basketball GAMEDAY CENTRAL page located on the Titans Athletic Website that will keep fans one click away from all the action. This page will feature links for live stats (audio and video when applicable) as well as links for all the latest info while also making it easy to find the Titans on social media and to purchase photos and game tickets.

Fambro is currently 11th in UDM history with 86 three-pointers and has amassed 868 points and 336 rebounds. She just tied her season high with five assists and four steals against nationally-ranked Green Bay and is currently having her best season with 11.2 ppg., second on the team. She has been in double figures 14 times and is also tied for fifth in school history with 117 games played.

Shayok is tied for second in school history in games played (123) and is just the second Titan to record 1,000 career points and rebounds. Her 1,072 rebounds are also second in school history and fourth all-time in the Horizon League, while her 1,127 points is 16th in the UDM record book. In her career, she has earned a number of awards including HL Newcomer of the Year, the Sixth Player of the Year, All-Defensive Team and Second Team All-League.

Detroit is 14-11 and has dropped to fourth in the Horizon League standings at 7-6 overall. UDM still has a chance at moving up to No. 2, but will need to win out and get some help. As it stands right now, Detroit can clinch a home Horizon League quarterfinals game with a win on Saturday and a UIC loss to Green Bay.

Milwaukee had won three in a row until Thursday's 92-76 setback at Loyola. The Panthers are looking to get out of the eighth spot in the Horizon League, which is where they currently stand at 8-17 overall and 4-9 in league play.

The Panthers have four players in double figures, led by Angela Rodriguez's 14.3 ppg., ninth in the HL. She is also third in the HL with 59 three-pointers and 11th hitting on 35.1% from the outside.

Sami Tucker is tallying 12.5 ppg., and 7.5 rpg., while Ashley Green and Emily Decorah are averaging 11.3 ppg. Decorah and Tucker are 1-2 in the conference in three-point field goal percentage, while Decorah has a league-best 82 triples.

Milwaukee is fourth in the conference in scoring offense (67.2), but last in defense (74.2).

UDM won the first meeting this season, 61-59, coming back from a 12-point first half deficit. Junior Senee Shearer had five treys and a game-high 19 points, while sophomore Shareta Brown recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Detroit will wrap up its three-game homestand next Thursday, Mar. 7, when the Titans host Youngstown State at 7:00 p.m.

THE DETROIT-MILWAUKEE SERIES
This will be the 44th career meeting between Detroit and Milwaukee and a Titan win would even up the series at 22-all. UDM has won seven of the last eight against UWM, including a come-from-behind 61-59 victory on the road earlier this year.

Detroit is 10-9 all-time in the Motor City against the Panthers and has won three of the last four meetings on Dick Vitale Court.

TIME CHANGE!!!!!
Fans, please take note that the game at Valparaiso next Saturday, Mar. 9, has officially been moved to a 12:05 CT start (1:05 ET), due to the Crusaders hosting the HL men's basketball semifinals.

ALL GOOD THINGS MUST COME TO AN END
Detroit saw its 15-game home winning streak snapped against nationally-ranked Green Bay on Thursday.

At the time, it was tied for the seventh longest in the nation and was the second longest home winning streak in Titan history, two away from the record.

CLOSE BUT NO CIGAR
After scoring just 31 points in 40 minutes at Green Bay back in early January, the Titans scored 63 points and led No. 21/23 Green Bay with 8:31 to go before falling to the Phoenix.

Green Bay hit 15 treys in the game, the most against Detroit since last season when Youngstown State knocked in 15 in a home triumph over the red, white and blue.

NO NEED TO BREATHE
Freshman Rosanna Reynolds played all 40 minutes against Green Bay for the sixth time this year - and that included all 45 minutes in an overtime loss at Ball State.

She has also played 39 minutes in four games and 38 in two others.

She currently tops the team and is fourth in the Horizon League at 35.7 minutes per game.

CAN SHE KEEP IT AT 20?
Sophomore Shareta Brown is currently averaging 20.8 points per game and if she was to finish averaging in the 20's, she would be just the second Titan to ever accomplish that feat.

Right now, Cassandra Pack is the only player in school history to average 20 in a year as she tallied 22.2 ppg., in 1986-87.

THANK YOU SENIORS
Prior to the start of the game, Detroit will honor its two seniors in Demeisha Fambro and Yar Shayok.

Fambro is currently 11th in UDM history with 86 three-pointers and has amassed 868 points and 336 rebounds. She is currently having her best season with 11.2 ppg., second on the team.

Shayok is tied for second in school history in games played (123) and is just the second Titan to record 1,000 career points and rebounds. Her 1,072 rebounds is second at Detroit and fourth all-time in the Horizon League, while her 1,127 points is 16th in the UDM record book.

In her career, she has earned a number of awards including HL Newcomer of the Year, the Sixth Player of the Year, All-Defensive Team and Second Team All-League.

PLAYOFF MODE
Detroit is currently fourth in the Horizon League at 7-6, 1 1/2 games behind Loyola (9-5) and two in back of Youngstown State (9-4) with three left to play.

First thing that the Titans want to do is secure a first round home playoff game and they can do that with a win on Saturday and a UIC loss to Green Bay.

The top four teams in the standings will have a home quarterfinals game on Mar. 13, with the highest remaining seed after that hosting the HL Semifinals (Mar. 15) and Championship (Mar. 17).

The Titans still have a chance at securing the No. 2 seed by winning out with Loyola and Youngstown State losing out.

With Detroit having one game left against Youngstown State, a three-way tie between the teams could happen and a Titan win would give each team a 1-1 record against each other with the next tiebreaker coming from record in the standings from top to bottom. Since the Ramblers still have a game with Green Bay left, they can control that tiebreaker with a win.

FOUR SCORES
The Titans had four players in double figures in scoring for the seventh time this year at UIC. Junior Senee Shearer had 21 to lead the way, while senior Demeisha Fambro and sophomore Shareta Brown had 18 apiece and freshman Rosanna Reynolds had 11.

A RUDE HOST
UDM is 9-1 at home this season - averaging 80.5 points per game. The Titans just lost their first home game against Green Bay, stopping UDM's 15-home game winning streak.

The 15-home game winning streak was the second longest in school history trailing the 17-game tally between 1985-87.

MORE ON CALIHAN MAGIC
Over a longer stretch of time, the Titans have posted a 21-4 ledger in their last 25 home games dating back to the 2010-11 campaign, as well as 36-12 in their last 48 home games.

UDM is also 44-23 in Calihan Hall since head coach Autumn Rademacher returned to her alma mater in 2008.

In their 35-year history, the Titans have enjoyed a 272-144 (.634) home court record.

THE DEEP ASSASSIN
Junior Senee Shearer has seen 35 of her 43 field goals on the year come from behind the three-point line (81.3%), with four games already that have seen her nail five triples in a game. Shearer has played in just 11 games after returning from a torn ACL suffered in last year's Horizon League Championship.

In her career, 116 of her 181 field goals have been 3-pointers (64.0%) with 12 career games of four or more and seven games of at least five treys, with her career high set at six last year at home against Youngstown State.

FAMBRO'S GOT GAME
Senior Demeisha Fambro was back in double figures for the 14th time this season with 18 points at UIC, connecting on a career-best 9-of-10 free throws.

Against Green Bay her last time out, she scored just nine points, but tied her career high with five assists and four steals.

Earlier this year, she reached double figures in a career-best six-straight games, which included a season-high 20 points against UIC.

In her last 10 games, she is tallying 13.6 ppg., and is averaging 11.2 points - second on the team and 17th in the HL - on the season.

She also has 96 career 3-pointers good for 11th place in Titan history and just 11 away from the 10th spot.

ANOTHER MILESTONE FOR YAR
Senior Yar Shayok has collected 1,072 rebounds in her career, a number that ranks fourth in Horizon League history.
Below is a list of the top five players in rebounding in HL history.

1. Christy Greis, Evansville (1989-93) - 1,286
2. Traci Edwards, Milwaukee (2005-09) - 1,193
3. Brandi Brown, Youngstown State - 1,172
4. Yar Shayok, Detroit - 1,072
5. Shalonda Winton, Cleveland State - 1,043

A LOT OF EXPERIENCE
Senior Yar Shayok played in her 123rd career game her last time out and is now tied for second in school history with former teammate Lauren Allen.

Another former teammate Jalesa Jones is UDM's career leader in games played with 127.

Meanwhile, senior Demeisha Fambro played in her 117th career game wearing the red, white and blue versus the Flames and is tied for fifth place in school history with Titan Hall-Of-Famer Mary Lillie and current UDM head coach Autumn Rademacher.

#WHAT CAN BROWN DO 4 YOU
Sophomore Shareta Brown's offensive game has her among the nation's leaders as she is currently 11th in the country in scoring (20.8) and sixth in field-goal percentage (57.1%).

Brown broke the Titan school record with 43 points in a game against Lourdes on Dec. 10, and added her fourth 30-point game of the season -and the sixth of her career - with 34 points at IPFW on Dec. 18.

Her six 30-point games are tied with Cassandra Pack (1983-87) for the most in school history in a career.

Her 43-point outburst is tied with IPFW's Amanda Hyde for the second highest in Division I this season.
