DETROIT (3/12/2013) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team will wrap up a three-game home stand facing Campbell Saturday at a new game time of 12:45pm on Titan Field.

Purple People Eaters
The Niagara Purple Eagles spoiled the home debut for Detroit on Thursday tying the contest in the final minute of regulation and winning 9-7 in the overtime period. UDM was up 7-6 with 18:36 remaining in the second half but a Purple Eagle goal with 1:03 left on the clock, that barely passed over the goal line, in regulation forced overtime. Two goals in the extra frame gave Niagara the 9-7 win and Detroit a difficult loss after holding a 33-25 shooting advantage over the Purple Eagles.
Zaynib Hamze and
Megan Callahan each scored twice for Detroit while
Lindsey Saunders,
Michaela Schwartz, and
Britany Busch also scored once.
History
The overtime game against Niagara on Thursday was the first ever overtime game in the history of UDM women's lacrosse. 2013 is now the fifth year of women's lacrosse at Detroit.
Titans Capture Another Defensive Honor
Goalkeeper
Lexie McCormick was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for the second time this season. It was the fourth straight time a Titan has won the award, which has been handed out five times this year, with
Zaynib Hamze taking the honor the other two times. Against Notre Dame on Tuesday, McCormick made seven saves and grabbed three ground balls in the loss and in Thursday's contest against Niagara, she had a team-best six ground balls and made 10 saves.

The NCAA releases weekly statistical rankings on Monday afternoon for the 105 teams in Division I and the Titans are right in the thick of it.
Zaynib Hamze ranks 12th in the nation in ground balls with 3.33 per game and 18th in caused turnovers with 2.17 a contest. Goalkeeper
Lexie McCormick is fourth in saves per game (9.67), seventh in total saves (58), 13th in save percentage (0.479), 72nd in goals against average (12.51), while she is also 19th in ground balls with 3.17 per game.
Amanda Guthrie is 64th in ground balls with 2.5 per contest. UDM as a team has 19.17 ground balls per game ranking them 18th overall and the team is causing nine turnovers per game to rank them 32nd overall. Defensively, UDM is 58th overall allowing 69 goals in six games and 11.5 per contest.
Campbell Fighting Camels
Campbell is a first-year program out of Buies Creek, N.C. in the Big South Conference with Coastal Carolina, Davidson (associate), High Point, Liberty, Longwood, Presbyterian, and Winthrop. The Camels are 2-2 heading into Thursday's game at St. Francis (Pa.) Campbell won its first ever game, in its inaugural game, on Feb. 23 with a 21-4 victory over Atlantic Sun member Kennesaw State. The Fighting Camels then hosted Longwood and fell 24-12 on Feb. 26 and followed that with a second straight loss, by a 9-1 score, on March 5 hosting St. Joseph's. The last time out, Campbell won 17-7 at Stetson, another A-Sun team, on March 8. Cloey Henchcliffe shares the scoring lead for the Camels with 15 goals and 17 points while Loren Day has 11 goals and six assists and 17 points. Brittany Kincer has tended the nets in all four games making 28 saves.

This game's event will be a Pre-Easter Celebration. With Easter being on March 31, March 13 will represent a chance for an Easter Egg Hunt for those in attendance. For Saturday's game, it will be a St. Patrick's Day Celebration entitled “Kiss Me I'm a Titan.”
