DETROIT (3/16/2013) -- Senior Zaynib Hamze powered in a career-high five goals for the University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team and junior Erin Campbell tied her career-best with six points, but the Campbell Fighting Camels won a 14-13 decision at Titan Field on Saturday afternoon.

Hamze now leads the team with 13 goals and 17 points in eight games this year and also had a team-high five ground balls and four draw controls along with three caused turnovers on the day. Erin Campbell tied a career-high with six points on three goals and three assists, matching her previous best set on March 11, 2011 at Cincinnati. Lindsey Saunders and Michaela Schwartz each scored twice and Kylie Birney once for Detroit. Tessa Keuler also added two assists for UDM.

It came down to the final minutes of the game as the Camels took a 14-12 lead with 1:33 remaining in regulation. Campbell (4-2) held the Titans (1-7) in check over that time span until Birney's fourth goal of the season made it 14-13, but with just 6.5 seconds left on the clock, time would expire in favor of the Camels.

UDM jumped out to a 2-0 lead 8:36 into the game on Erin Campbell's first of the day as she took a pass from Saunders. Hamze followed that with her first of five markers just 24 seconds later.

Campbell would come back with two straight before Erin Campbell scored her second and then her third around two Camel goals making it 4-3 Detroit with 12:47 to play in the opening half. CU added two more goals for its first lead of the day, 5-4, with 8:46 to play.

Hamze and Schwartz would add goals with Erin Campbell assisting on Schwartz's just before the close of the half to make it a 6-6 game heading into the break.

An early Campbell goal was followed by four straight tallies from UDM to put the Titans in front 10-7. Saunders first took a pass from Erin Campbell to tie the game before Saunders added another for her second of the contest. Hamze then tallied two more following that to give the Titans the three-goal lead with 22:49 to play.

The Fighting Camels would not be done as they scored the next three goals to tie the game yet again, but Hamze, off a pass from Keuler, would put Detroit in front by an 11-10 score and still 13:16 left to play in regulation.

Three more Camel goals gave the visitors a lead they would not relinquish as Campbell was up 13-11 with 5:55 remaining.

Keuler made a pass to Schwartz who posted her second of the day, but an opposing goal had Detroit down by two with 1:33 to go and time running out. Birney's late goal made the overall score a one-goal contest, but it was too late for the Titans.

UDM held a 30-28 shooting advantage while Campbell held a slight 20-17 advantage in ground balls. Detroit won the battle of draw controls, 18-11, and forced 15 Camel turnovers. The Titans were also 11-13 on clear attempts. Freshman defender Morgan Miller had three draw controls and three ground balls for the Titan.

Detroit's next game will be on Friday, Mar. 22, at Coastal Carolina in Conway, S.C., with game time scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
