Campbell Named Atlantic Sun Player of the Week

Atlantic Sun Release

MACON, Ga. (3/18/2013) -- Junior attack Erin Campbell of the University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week on Monday for her efforts last week.

It is the first time a Titan has captured the Player of the Week award in Detroit's new lacrosse conference, the Atlantic Sun, and it keeps the Titan weekly streak alive after UDM has won at least a share of the Defensive Player of the Week honor in each of the last four weeks. This is the first career weekly recognition for Campbell.

In two home games this week, Detroit fell 19-2 to Louisville of the BIG EAST on Wednesday and was upended by the Campbell Fighting Camels, 14-13, on Saturday.

Erin Campbell totaled seven points in the two games with a goal against Louisville and then she tied a career-high with three goals and three assists for six total points against the Camels. She also corralled two ground balls in each game and took a team-high eight shots against Campbell University. Her six points tied a career-high she set back on March 11, 2011 at Cincinnati where she had four goals and two assists.

In eight games this year, Campbell is second on the team with 15 points and is tied for third with eight goals. She has 33 career goals and 49 points in 28 games played and is making a nice comeback in 2013 after not playing at all in 2012 due to an injury.

The Titans will head south this weekend for its next action. Detroit will play on Friday, Mar. 22, at Coastal Carolina in Conway, S.C., scheduled for 3:00 p.m. and then Sunday at Winthrop in Rock Hill, S.C. at 1:00 p.m.
