DETROIT (4/11/2013) -- The Titans will head to the Sunshine State as the University of Detroit Mercy women's lacrosse team will play a pair of Atlantic Sun Conference games this weekend. Detroit will face the Stetson Hatters Friday at 4:00 p.m. and then Jacksonville Sunday at 12:00 p.m.

Maybe You Missed It
The Titans (2-11, 1-0 Atlantic Sun) had two games last week and split during the week. After falling 14-6 to San Diego State in a game on the campus of Ohio State in Columbus on Monday. Detroit hosted Howard in its A-Sun opener on Sunday and won the tune of 16-5.  Megan Callahan and Kylie Birney each had two goals while Zaynib Hamze and Erin Campbell also scored for the Titans on Monday. Against Howard, Tessa Keuler had a career-high five goals and Zaynib Hamze set a career-best as well with seven points Seven different Titans scored in that game. Hamze finished with four goals and three assists and Lindsey Saunders and Erin Campbell each recorded two goals while Michaela Schwartz, Ellery Alexander, and Jenna Payne also tallied for the Titans. UDM had a strong second half outscoring Howard by a 9-1 margin.
 
Atlantic Sun Sweep
This past Monday, Detroit swept the Atlantic Sun Conference Weekly awards as senior midfielder Zaynib Hamze was named the Player of the Week and sophomore defender Taylor Marshall garnered the Defensive Player of the Week award. Hamze had a goal and an assist with three caused turnovers against San Diego State on Monday to reach 100 points in her career and had a career-high seven points Sunday vs. Howard. She also managed two ground balls, four draw controls with a caused turnover in the team's 16-5 victory. She now leads the Titans in 13 games this season with 23 goals and 32 points. Marshall had two ground balls and three caused turnovers against Howard holding the Bison to the second lowest goal total Detroit has allowed this season. Marshall had three ground balls in the San Diego State contest.
 
In the Hundreds
Senior Zaynib Hamze has 185 career ground balls and she is currently ranked 14th in the NCAA in ground balls per game with 2.92 per contest. She is just eight behind Emily Boissonneault's all-time Titan best of 193 ground balls and will look to become Detroit's all-time leader in that category with four games remaining on this year's regular season schedule. With a late assist against San Diego State on Monday, Hamze became the fourth Titan in the history of the program to record 100 career points. She now has 107 points (73g, 34a) and follows Boissonneault (272 points), Anna Eidem (234 points), and Corina Mahorn (135 points) in the exclusive 100-point club. Hamze also has 72 career caused turnovers which places her second on the all-time Titan list behind Boissonneault's 157.
 
The Latest from the NCAA - McCormick Still at #1
The NCAA releases weekly statistical rankings on Monday afternoon for the 105 teams in Division I and Titan goalkeeper Lexie McCormick in in the top ten in three categories. She still leads the NCAA in total saves (127), she is fourth in saves per game (9.77) and she is also 8th in ground balls per game (3.0). She is also 21st in save percentage (0.458), and 76th in goals-against average (13.07).  Zaynib Hamze is ranked 20th with 1.77 caused turnovers per game while she is also 14th in ground balls per game (2.92). Other Titans individually ranked in the top 100 include Amanda Guthrie who is 33rd in ground balls per game (2.54) and 88th in caused turnovers (1.23). Detroit is 9th overall in ground balls per game with 19.0 while the team is 20th in the nation with 9.15 caused turnovers per contest.

Stetson Hatters
Stetson is a first year program in the Atlantic Sun led by head coach Nicole Moore who has been on the job since December 2011 in her first head coaching position. Through the first 12 games, the Hatters (0-12, 0-1 A-Sun) are still in search of the program's first victory. Maylis Broderick leads the team with 11 goals and also leads the squad with 13 points. Two goalkeepers have shared time in the net with Whitney Meyers and Caili Guilday both appearing in the team's 10 games and Meyers receiving the edge in playing time. The Hatters were last in action on April 6 at Jacksonville as the Dolphins came out on top, 20-3.
 
Jacksonville Dolphins
Jacksonville is the defending National Lacrosse Conference (NLC) champion and took out Detroit 23-7 in last year's NLC Semifinal match at Davidson. The Dolphins (9-3, 2-0 A-Sun) are 5-0 all-time against the Titans and opened the 2013 conference schedule with a 22-2 win at Kennesaw State and a 20-3 home victory over Stetson which was the team's last game on April 6. Jacksonville opened the 2013 campaign against a NCAA preseason-favorite in Syracuse with a 21-8 loss back on Jan.13. The Dolphins were the A-Sun favorite in the preseason coaches poll. Amanda Hurley leads the team in goals with 26 goals and Taylor McCord has 22 goals and 15 assists for a team-best 37 points. Goalkeeper Karli Tobin has made 73 saves starting all 12 of the team's games this year. 
 
And Then There Were Two
Detroit will wrap up the 2013 schedule with two more games before heading into the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament in Jacksonville. The Titans will travel to Olean, N.Y. to face St. Bonaventure on April 17 before concluding its schedule with Senior Day at Titan Field on April 21 against Kennesaw State.
