DETROIT (7/8/13) - The University of Detroit Mercy continually wants
Great Things for its student-athletes and the Athletic Department is making improvements to some of its facilities as Buysse Ballpark has a new bullpen area and the seating area at Titan Field both have a different look.
"Every year our goal is to improve our facilities which in turn enhances the student-athlete's experience," stated UDM Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs Jason Horn. "These additions as well as a few other venue changes keep us on track as we strive to compete for championships."
An area behind the Titan's home dugout has room for three pitchers to throw, practice or warm-up. The new bullpen features new dirt while being elevated off the ground and is also enclosed with stone bricks around the entire area, to match the dugouts. The bullpen is not the only improvement the softball team has seen this past year as the team has enjoyed its new indoor hitting cage, which it received after
strength and conditiong opened its new location in Calihan Hall.
"We are excited to have added this new space to our facility," said UDM head softball coach Liz Young who will begin her second season at Detroit in 2013-14."It will aid in more efficient practice schedules, help with game day atmosphere and preparation, and in the long run propel us towards a Horizon League Championship. We are blessed to have our new bullpen and can't wait to put it to use."
Titan Field will receive a new set of bleachers that will be on a new paved area with a walkway that leads right to the field. The bleachers will also provide better ADA access.
The 2013 fall athletic season begins with a women's soccer exhibition on Monday, August 12 at Titan Field, with FREE admission. Both men's and women's soccer fall schedules are now available online.
